I hate you all for ever and ever!
I watched Brokeback Mountain yesterday. And I wanted to discuss it. 3 hours ago!

But NOOOOOOOOO! Instead I had to get dragged into everyone else's threads!

Just start being boring again. For my sake.

Khash.

3. Yeah...
And the ending made me sob like a baby. That last scene.

Although the first (and the sadly last) sex scene between Jack and Ennis had me feeling more than a little tingly.....

(I haven't seen you recently! I've missed you!)

6. I've missed you too!
Night shift and all of my daughter's activities have worn me down.

My friend J_, his husband M_ (yep, they're legal!) and I call it our "sweaty, hot, hardbodied cowboy movie". We all know there is a message there and we appreciate it but sometimes you have to appreciate hot, sweaty, hardbodied, horny cowboys for what they are.

8. Yes I do!
And you especially! I've thrown myself at your feet. Offered you all the wonders of the earth. Or if not the earth, at least my body. And if not mine, I offered you TJ's.

But you are just SO picky!

Otherwise I'd have gotten it and would be glad to discuss it.

How goes? :hi:

5. Hey, I'm at work.
I would have loved to have discussed it. Just a month or so back I finally went to see it. The next weekend I went right out and bought Annie Proulx's short story, so I could better understand some plot points.

The movie stayed with me for days afterwards. For several days I thought ruefully of all the ways I'd let people down. Then I switched to thinking of all the ways loved ones had let me down.

It's that kind of movie.

13. Yeah it's sticking with me too
I keep thinking of a phrase I read that this reminds me of:

"Love and grief add up to passion."

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm still trying to figure it out. Jack was gay, that becomes clear, but Ennis? I got the feeling that one of two things was goning on with him. Either he was not gay but fell in love with Jack anyway (It happens! and unlike Jack he never has sex with another man) or this tough, macho cowboy is too scared to admit that he's gay.

Also, how did Jack die? The way his wife said in that uncaring voice? Or the way that Ennis flashed on? Was it Ennis's fear of his lover's death or the truth? Because it seems like though they lied and tried to keep it secret (but not well) by the end everyone knows.

So how does it compare to Annie Proulx's story?

I think I just figured it out! Ennis' rejection of Jack was an attempt to protect him from what he'd seen in his childhood! Damn! That should have been obvious! And even more heartbreaking.

Khash.

23. Do you want to get the short story, or would you prefer...
...to have the synopsis here? Frankly, I recommend that you try to read the story first. The story is told with an economy of words, but you have a better sense of why Jack's death is dealt with as it is in the movie.

By the way, in the Lounge one day we got into a discussion of theories about what happened to Jack...

7. I haven't watched it yet
I've got it... but I'm seriously into a heavy Colin Firth infatuation right now. I can't get past Pride & Prejudice. :-)

I do promise to watch BBM as soon as I get my Colin cravings under control. :9

19. Keep your grubby little paws
off MY Swimboy, bitch!

I am a kind man (and fairly easy going), but flirting with him behind my back or even in front of my front? No go.

But ask nicely and I'll share him with you. Or we could dicuss cash terms. But I hope you have an exceedingly large bank account :)

(Trust me, he's worth every penny.)

Along with just about everybody else (at least everybody else male).

The boy's a Virginian, and thus has far better manners than are ever found in Texas or England.
