A garden question for Southerners
When we lived in Georgia, our garden had a vining plant that the neighbors called "Confederate Ivy". Now we're up North again and want to try and cultivate some. Unfortunately, "Confederate Ivy" doesn't seem to be it's real name! Google searches turn up nothing.

Does anyone know about Confederate Ivy? And what it's real name is?

12. This is how I recognized it
These are my boys when they were very young. The pic was taken in South Texas.

I do miss the smell of jasmin...

8. Regional names for plants vary wildly.
Look in any gardening book -- plants can have five or six "common" names, and sometimes they're pretty wildly different from each other. That's why the professionals (which I am not) use the Latin names -- they are always the same and you always know what you're referring to.

11. Latin names rule!
At least for plant/animal names. :hi:

9. Dunno.
What you call a daisy, we call 'duck flowers.' Probably because of Daisy Duck.

Plants have many names, I guess. :hi:

10. If it's a jasmine, it won't grow above the frost line
Jasmine is not frost hardy, I'm sorry to say. If it was, I'd have it all over my garden in MA.

I love the stuff!

13. Confederate jasmine
and it will take over your yard, grow into your windows and eat your children. But it smells great. It is in bloom right now.
