DU I need a Hug...I just spent most of my savings on my cat.
Edited on Sat Apr-29-06 02:40 PM by xultar
He had the PU operation (good thing is I nave transgendered cat), a kidney removed and many bladder stones removed. Over the past 4 weeks I've spent about 3 grand.

I'm broke and sad. The cat is fine now. As a matter of fact he has buried his e-collar in the litter box. How he got it off I'll NEVER KNOW!

I will have to cancel my house cleaning for the next 3 months and really batten down the hatches when it comes to costs.

since things have been so expensive I was already dipping into my savings. Now I'm sad and I want to cry but I just couldn't put the cat down for something that he could recover from and live a nice long life. He's uncomfortable but he's fine. HE can't do stairs that well but he comes when called. I guess he's happy which is all I ever wanted.

Let me go find him and stop him from licking his new vagina.

6. WOW. I'm sorry to hear about your kitty. Man kitties are a money pit.
I love him though. I just hope he doesn't end up with any more health issues.

11. my kitty's just fine
it's been about five years since her accident, and all she's got to show for it is a missing tooth...

cats are a lot like kids, they're pretty resiliant. i know money is tight, but have you looked into health insurance for your kitty?

8. Thank you. Being a good mom does make me feel a little better.
I was thinking of re-naming him/her Laptop or Transie.

It's only money. Your return on investment will be more unconditional love than any of us deserve!

 Glad it went well.

14. Thank you. He seems to be pretty spry. If he takes that e-collar off
again he will need surgery to remove it!

Have had to shell out the bucks on pets in the past.

Glad your kitty is doing better

When I get another pet, will also get pet health insurance.

5. YES...@ one point I had 4 cats and 3 dogs in the house. Who would
have thought it would have been Velcro. Out of all my pets he seemed to be the most balanced and healthy.

9. Moreso than dogs, cats will hide injury & sickness for as long as they can
It looks sudden to us, but they can compensate for a long time. My first cat Cassie had feline cardiomyopathy since she was a kitten - she didn't show any symptoms until a week before she died. :(

12. I'm learning that now. Apparently Velcro has been doing the same thing.
I feel bad I didn't know.

15. I felt terrible too
but what can you do? You can't follow them around all day and you can't take em to the vet everytime they act a little different! :)

7. I know my cat with rub his head on your foot
$3K isn't so much that it will change your life. You'll make it up after awhile, simply by doing without some things you probably won't mind doing without, and my cat is giving me an approving stare as I tell him what a good parent you are. Let's hope your cat lives long enough that the $3K works out to only a few hundred a year or an extra quarter per can of food.

10. That is my fear that he'll lose his other kidney and die anyway.
HE's such a good cat. Sweet and quite funny. You know, I actually thought he was gay @ one point so I'll look @ the surgery as a way of giving him the body to match his mind and soul.

16. Well, just enjoy him while he's here ...
... and know that at some level he knows how lucky he is to having a caring parent, though he might not ever appreciate your progressive politics. Whether he lives one year or ten years more, I think $3000 isn't a lot to pay for a sweet, funny, and sexually ambiguous cat! You'll realize that pretty soon, as soon as your over the shock of the expense.

19. Well, hey--to vary a popular adage...
"Kitties will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no kitties." Besides, how would you have felt if you hadn't spent the money on her?

20. Here is a hug
You may not have your 3K but what you do have is the knowledge that you took care of a little guy who needed you. This feeling alone will make it all worthwhile. I have always had cats and dogs and always will. My promise to them is health and happiness and my payment is looking at them across the room and marveling at their beauty, innocence and contentment. I won't bore you with the amount of money we have spent over the years - through cancers, Addison's Disease, heart problems, eating things they should not ---well the list goes on. Never once have I hesitated to spend the money and never once have I regretted it.

21. Expensive little beasts, aren't they -- but worth every dime.
Had the same experience a few times -- sick kitties pretty much cleaned out my bank account. It's disheartening to see the moths flutter out of your wallet, but seeing your cat get healthy makes up for it. It's only money; it will be a pain in the ass for awhile (for both you and the cat) -- but you'll get more money eventually AND have your little buddy, and nobody will be sad.
