I am going to see "RENT" on Saturday.

In NYC. I know, it's the day of the peace rally and I really wanted to go to that but that is the day that my mom just so happened to get tickets for the show.
So I will be at the peace rally in spirit! :hug:


So, has any one seen RENT, either on or off broadway?
What are your thoughts about it?

I am holding off seeing the movie until after I see the show.
I have read up about RENT, so I have a general idea of what it is about.

I am so excited. I can't wait to see it.

7. I saw the movie as well and cried for two hours.

And I wasn't the only one in theatre who cried. It was one big blubber fest.

I haven't seen the Broadway production, but I know the music. It's the "Chorus Line" of my generation.

8. People griping about the movie...

...were undoubtedly comparing it to their memories of the show. It was fresh to me and I loved it. Also, A lot of people just plain don't like musicals, and/or can't suspend their cynicism long enough to just immerse themselves in it. I found it moving and real and sweet, but that was because I was open to it.

Right-wingers in particular hate Rent, for obvious reasons - it depicts gays, transsexuals, people with AIDS, artists, and poor people as (gasp) HUMAN BEINGS with (omg) FEELINGS, and they are the MAIN CHARACTERS to boot.

Excellent show. And you won't be disappointed by the film. It's very faithful to the stage version.

It's a celebration of life more than anything. And like real life, death and loss are a part of it. It's not "Steel Magnolias" , "Beaches" or "Terms of Endearment", if that's what you're wondering.

13. I've seen it on tour.

And I've loved the show for years now (the lyrics are actually in my sigline...:blush:). Both the movie and the stage show are great, but the stage show is really, really something to see. There are always tons of groupies there; it's a great atmosphere. Tons of energy...I'm uber-jealous. :P

14. Saw it twice...it's fabulous!

First time I saw it was almost a decade ago...I was blown away! Then last year my Mom took me to see it again as my Christmas present. Loved it again! It'll make you laugh, cry, and dance in your seat! I'd even go a third time to see it.

I've only seen the movie. My husband, daughters, & I thoroughly enjoyed---the music is marvelous. We bought the DVD and also the music CD. Just can't get enough of the music....we listen to it all the time.
