Look at this doozy of an LTTE from the local paper:

http://www.stevenspointjournal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060426/SPJ06/604260411/1713/SPJopinion

There's so much pollution in the air now that if it weren't for our lungs there'd be no place to put it all." -- Robert Orben

So you think your vehicle is environmentally friendly just because it is rated as a low emissions vehicle or LEV? Well your vehicle just might be the most pollutant out of them all.

On a LEV vehicle hydrocarbon emissions are reduced only by 70 percent of the total emissions released, nitrogen oxide is reduced by 50 percent, but there is no decrease in the amount of carbon monoxide that is being released into the air. ULEV (ultra low emission vehicle) reduces hydrocarbon emissions by 85 percent, carbon monoxide is reduced by 50 percent and nitrogen oxide is reduced by 50 percent. Where as a SULEV (super ultra low emissions vehicle) reduces hydrocarbons by 95 percent of total emissions released, nitrogen oxide also is reduced by 95 percent, and carbon monoxide is reduced by 70 percent. It is obvious that ZEV (zero emissions vehicles) do not release any harmful emissions into the earth's atmosphere at all.

So if your vehicle is rated as a LEV it is not necessarily environmentally friendly. In fact, it is the lowest rating on the list of emission control. So don't be fooled if a dealer is trying to get you to buy a LEV-rated vehicle because there just trying to sell there product. Help our environment by choosing a better rated emission controlled vehicle.

Thier, there, and they're. It's a simple concept, people.
