1. Really no clue
I hid the main kudzu thread weeks ago. It is one of those Lounge things that somehow obtained a life of its own.

I had a thread entitled "Mods - Lock this thread" that ended up getting like 400 posts to it before it finally got locked.

The lounge is a strange and wonderful place.

2. Kudzu is an invasive plant. It's all over the South.
Edited on Tue Apr-25-06 05:03 AM by Hissyspit
Indigenous to Asia, it was introduced to the U.S. in the late 1800s. It's what you see on the cover of R.E.M.'s "Murmur" album. The vine is edible. Someone posted "I'm bullish on kudzu. It's going places." People keep kicking it. Heir of "Dupe" thread - the king/queen of all kicked threads.

No other significance that I know of. Irony? It keeps growing and growing, parasitic, like the thread?

On edit: it was entitled "How quickly will this thread die"

are tons of threads that have lasted longer in other forums. ;) Nobody'll beat ozymandius, that was hysterical. It was finally locked in deference to dialup users

26. Ozymandius' got to 1171...and was locked in 11/03.
That thread was a riot. All kinds of lurkers posted and the like. I've never seen anything quite like it. It's also fun to see how many posters have been banned since then.

Or Arwalden's http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=105&topic_id=4769218 with well over 1,000 responses.

I wonder what the longest sustained thread was/is?

29. I am pretty sure it was ozymandius' but I'm sure there will be somebody
to tell me I am wrong. His was 1171 and then it was locked. The only reason I know that was because I was a mod at the time.

30. I wasn't clear... I meant longest duration.
Edited on Tue Apr-25-06 09:15 AM by Misunderestimator
From what I can see, ozymandius' lasted about a month and a half.

Kudzu has gone on since last December. I suppose the groups have longer threads since they stay on the front page so long (and never seem to be archived), but damn if kudzu isn't the longest running in one of the main forums.

yet. And I think another one would have lasted longer if it hadn't been requested to be locked.

4. Kudzu!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kudzu

I've heard a rumor that some unmotivated people plant it in place of grass so they'll have a "lawn" that they never have to mow or maintain. There's a house near where I work during the week that has such a "lawn".

6. I ran across
a gardening catalog circa mid 1920's. In it, kudzu was touted as a decorative vine.

21. I could go for that...
...my lawn looks as though it was devoured by grubs over the winter and it looks like crap. Maybe I'll turn it into kudzu instead of re-sodding it, and reap the added benefit of never having to mow or maintain.

Hmmmm.

:dilemma:

23. Lewis Grizzard said this about kudzu:
KUDZU: Nothing grows faster than a kudzu vine. It has been known to cover entire homes in Georgia where the families are asleep for the night. They are then trapped inside and can't get to a convenience store, so they starve. Those who try to eat their way out of kudzu quickly have their innards entangled in the vine because no matter how much you chew it, the blamed stuff just keeps on growing.
