Favorite TV Commercials
Ok, most TV commercials are dreck. But there are a few advertisers who in the the post-media-trust days have figured out how to engage the consumer.

Personally, my favorite ads are ones that entertain, ususally comedically. My least favorite ads are the ones that try to convince me that a corporation gives a rat f*ck about me as a person. Those are particularly insulting, and it's hard for me to believe they are effective, and yet there are so many I guess they must be.

My favorite ads at the present time are the Jack in the Box spots. Sure, JiB food is nothing to write home about, but at least their tongue-in-cheek commercials are fun.

My least favorite would have to be the Sprint series. It is hard to imagine how a theme so lame could endure so long. :)

How about your favorites, and non-favorites?

4. Yep, that's a good one
I kept expecting it to end and they just kept falling.

IMO the best commercial of all time was the VW commercial from a few years back where 4 kids drive to a party at night while "Pink Moon" plays. It was so beautiful it gave me goosebumps.

3. I agree with you about Jack in the Box
but this year has been short of humorous commericals as compared
to years past. I guess companies are not spending the money in
this 'recovery'. I find that spots from Pharma corps are the most
disgusting. I reach for the remote and curse BushCo everytime.

5. Me too...

That was I was thinking when I read the subject. I've seen some commercials out there better that Jack in the Box, but theirs are consistantly funny, and good advertising, as you always remeber it as a Jack in the Box commercial...

my least favorite have to be any type that feature people too stupid to cook eggs without structurally damaging their kitchen. "Do you have trouble opening doors? Try the KnobMaster 2400 for only 17 easy payments of $19.95"

6. Love the Sprint commercial with the disgusting guy in the diner
and the girl calls up her friend and says, "I'm sitting here beside your new boyfriend." (She sends his photo) "Don't you just love your new boyfriend?"

The friend gets the message and says to the Sprint guy, completely deadpan, "I do love him." And Sprint guy says, "As long as you're happy."

The expressions on the girls faces are just great.

On the other hand, I despise the horrible new Sprint commercial with the shrieking sorority girls. "SEVEN!!!"

8. My all-time (so far) favorite is an old Alka-Seltzer commercial
It was a commercial of a commercial being shot advertising spaghetti meatballs.
It depicted the stereo-typed Italian man and woman in the big-city tenement apartment and the man is taking a bite of the product.

His line is supposed to be: "Mama Mia, that is a spicy meatball."
Said with the heavy: "That is-a spicy-a meat-a ball" Itallian accent.

Instead of the lline, his mouth is burned by the meatball and he only sputters and the product drops out of the mouth..."Cut!"is heard and then another "take" is shown and the lines are messed up again. "Cut-" and again, and again...
Then, after eternity and an Alka-Seltzer, the actor gets the line
right. The Director says: "Cut..perfect...Let's do just one more."
And the look on the actor's faces...priceless!
Cut to shot of Alka-Seltzer package. Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is...

10. The old Lite beer from Miller ads.
"Tastes great!"
"Less filling!"

Like when they go bowling, some guy says to Mean Joe Green, "This ball doesn't have holes!"
*crunch*
"It does now."

Or the one where thay Hispanic ballplayer is talking about the beer while his friend in scarfing down the Mexican food.
"And when eating jalapenos, the best part is, it's cold!"

Nowadays though, I'm a sucker for any ad that has cats in it.
Especially kittens.

11. I liked theToyota commercial
where the guy stepped out of his car and fell down a manhole. That was a couple years ago. I also liked the Jumbone commercial with the Airedale until the Animal Channel played it to death.

As for non-favorites, where to start. The Enzyte ads with ... what's the guy's name - Bob? ... are near the top of my list, along with the guy who finally asked his doctor about Viagra. Have you lost weight? Been on vacation? How I want him to say, "No, I finally got a boner that lasted a whole minute!" (I read somewhere that's how long the average Viagra-induced erection lasts.) The Levitra ad with the guy throwing the football through the tire swing is equally lame.

I also hate the Toys R Us giraffe. Oh, and the Enforcer mom who says, "When I say no weed, I mean no weed." Then we see the kid turning down a hit because he doesn't want to get grounded again. Yeah, that's realistic. I also resent sitcom stars who don't have any kids telling me how to raise mine in the "The More You Know" series.
