Boiling eggs: I HATE it when the shells crack during boiling, don't you?

kinda blows it for the easter egg coloring....Cracked colored eggs look weird, imo.

oh well, 11 out of 12 ain't bad....except now the kids will have yet another thing to argue over: WHO gets the cracked egg? Everything has to be even-steven with these kids, I swear.

Maybe we'll only hide 10 real eggs this year, so it's an EVEN number.

Jeez, what we go through.....:eyes:

2. The technique that works for me..
I put the eggs in cold water, and put the heat on med..as soon as it starts a low boil, I cover the pot and turn the fire to low, and after a few minutes, turn it off and leave the pot covered.. when I can hold my hand on the side of the pot without and OUCH!, I put the pot in the sink and run cold water over them.. Usually get NO cracked eggs..

5. Where were you about half an hour ago??
:D

I did the eggs in cold water thing, too. My problem was I started the water up too high. Live and learn...

27. I boil 'em the way my dad taught me
cold water, eggs, bring to boil for about 3 minutes (? check time w/brother who does this more often than I do), then cover, turn off heat, keep eggs in that water until it cools down, THEN rinse with cold water. Sometimes, I get a fracture line, but rarely does it go all the way through the shell.

No icky green/gray coating.

30. It's the best way to cook rice too
except for the cold water in the sink part..

People try to rush rice or they lift the lid and let the steam out because they peek..

I have an ancient pot with a super tight lid, and it's a NO-FAIL rice cooker.. Perfect every time:)

gotta start with cold water..slow boil...simmer..and do not lift the lid...

15. Yeah that one goes out of circulation
You don't wanna be hiding cracked eggs, especially not in the house...

And you need an odd number for the egg hunt, don't you? So they know who the winner is?

I always let the eggs sit out at room temp for awhile before putting them in cold water to bring to slow boil. Need to equilibrate the temp to avoid cracking (or so they say)

18. I colored eggs yesterday!
I had so much fun! :bounce:
Every year, I color like 10 "normal" eggs and then make one or two "magic" eggs where I use all of the colors to dye the egg!
It looks like a rainbow egg.

I love dying eggs! :hi:

:hi: I never have, but Mrs. Grumpy referred to "technicolor egg salad", upthread, which really CRACKED me up....pun intended.

they can't be THAT hard.

Tomorrow we're having two different kinds of quiches for our Sunday Easter brunch at home. That handles the egg scene. :D

37. He's 12 yrs old and he's a total crack up.
He love, Loves, LOVES potatoes. He likes to say that he's got three stomachs:

One for "regular food"
One for desserts, and
One for potatoes.

:D Here he is, a VERY happy boy, cuddling up next to some country fries. LOL. What can I say? We're Irish.
