Seriously, who would spend that kind of money on a birthday party
I swear if I ever met a child so spoiled rotten & selfish as those featured on "My Sweet Sixteen", I'd drag them off to New Orleans and show them how we could better spend $200k.

1. Why the fuck does a show like that exist??
What's the redeeming social value to that show?? Is there supposed to be a message to the audience that parents should not treat their kids this way?? because I didn't notice it the one time I watched it. If that show is there to do no more than glorify this kind of behaviour, then it makes it truly revolting.

2. I stomached about two
after I came across one and watched it I decided to check one more out to see if this was truly how these children acted. It was even worse. Every other word out of this girls mouth was "It's my party and you better do what I say". I can appreciate that parents who have money would want to do something special for their child's 16th birthday but where is instilling a sense of value for these spoiled brats?

3. I don't even know what the point of that show is...
Who knows, maybe it's supposed to educate the audience in a subtle way, for all I know. But the way those girls act is just disgusting. I hope this isn't indicative of the attitudes of the current teenage generation in this country.

Superficiality rules over all.

4. That's nothing. I know a certain couple in Los Angeles that routinely
spent more than $50,000 on their kid's birthday party every year.

They would even hire famous celebrities to pretend to be the kid's friend.

5. If you have the money, why not?
While I think they are often doing for emotionally and psycholgoically wrong reasons (probably guilt for the adultery, long hours at the office, and generally not being available for the kids), I don't see any problem with spending that much for a party if the person has the money for it.

If I were ultra-rich, I'd love to throw big bashes for my kids' birthdays - maybe fly 'em a bunch of their friends and their friends parents to hawaii to tahiti or something, and just have a fun time.

8. I would love to take everyone I know on a cruise
around the world if I had that kind of dough. But a kid's party? No. Maybe for graduation....

6. You know if you'd stop watching shit television
eventually the advertisers would pull the plug on it.

Please, think of the advertisers.

7. sheesh
I'm amazed that a small party for my kid at Dave and Busters is going to cost more than $100.

I think people who really really spoil kids do them a terrible disservice. Maybe a trip to NOLA to help out would be the thinking parents' better birthday present.

9. I never watched that show. Did someone really spend that kind
of money on a Sweet Sixteen party?

Holy crap. I didn't spend that much on my house.

12. Every single one of them (well the 2 I watched)
And the one guy gave out MP3 players with his invitation on them.

Sad thing was - these kids had no idea who most of the people were at the party. They just invited all the kids so they can make themselves look important

14. I have to tell you LynneSin, that is absolutely sickening.
Think of the good that could come from money in those amounts.

You aren't entitled to use up more than your fair share just because you can.

10. I'd hate to see what the girl's wedding bill will be
I'm sure she'll demand a wedding much more extravagant than her birthday party. Maybe do the Oprah thing like a free car for every guest.

BTw - I met someone who got one of those cars. She had ten tickets and only one friend wanted or was able to go with her to the show.

11. How about
Mrs. Kozlowski's birthday party, complete with actual-size ice sculpture of Michelangelo's David filled with Stolichnaya dripping out of the statue's anatomically correct penis, the whole affair also written off as a business expense in Tyco's books? Did they broadcast that one? Why not?

15. I can't even watch that show without wanting to kill someone.
That's how much I despise that show. It's one thing to be a teenager with no concept of money, or class, or anything else, but to be the dumb parents who indulge that kind of behavior.... I just....

:grr:

16. Paris H. and the "sweet 16" girls are THE poster kids for inheritance tax
Ever wonder why the super-rich shouldn't be permitted to hand over all their wealth to the next generation? Watch 'Simple Life' or MTV's 'Sweet Sixteen'...you'll have all the answers.

At least Trump's kids graduate from college and work.
