Sometimes I Instantly Dislike Someone Just Because Of Their FIRST NAME...
... because it happens to be the same name of someone that I *already* dislike (but for GOOD and JUSTIFIABLE reasons). I get a negative reaction to the name, and I associate that innocent person with the guilty person that is the TRUE object of my derision and hostility.

It's unfair, but I can't help it.

So, if your name is Don, or Joan, or Benny, or Mark... and if I act cold to you when we meet, now you know why.

Sorry.

10. I have a hard time with the name George.
I lay that squarely on the shoulders of the Chimp In Chief.

Fortunately, George Clooney redeems the name somewhat.

4. Back before my son was born
when I was choosing names for him, my mother used to say, "oh you can't name him (insert name here) because of this other guy had the same name and I hate that other guy"

Used to drive me nuts.

I picked the name Tim.

My cousin, who is as close to me as a sister, never said a word, despite the fact that her abusive ex-husband was a "Tim" (something I managed to forget).

Years later, when she was looking for a name for her soon-to-be-born child, we talked about it, and she said, "Well, at first it seemed funny to me, but then it got to be that when I heard the name Tim, I automatically thought of your Tim, and not my ex-husband."

If I had seen the offending Megan at my high school reunion I may have punched her. Never did growing up, but, hey, what are reunions for if not to say/do what you've always wanted?
