stupid cat up a tree update
when i got home he was still up the tree. it had been raining, and he was shivering & tired.

pitiful.

i tried to put a ladder up in the tree but it was way scary & too short.

so i took the advice of a poster on the other thread

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=4977371&mesg_id=4977371

& stapled carpet to the 2x4 "bridge" i'd made. he eventually put his whole weight on it, but wouldn't risk the dash to freedom.

a rainstorm was coming in, so, in one smooth movement, i just pulled the 2x4 with the cat on the end of it out of the tree & over the roof. he then jumped off. then he dried himself off & slept for 12 hours.

8. Reminds me of my late, great Alexander
When we were still new to the area, and he was only about a year and 1/2 old (he lived to be 18)living in one side of a duplex, he climbed a maple tree and ended up on the roof of the one next door, about 2.5 stories up. The branch he used to get on the roof sprung back up once he mounted the roof, so he couldn't get off.
I tried to throw a rock on the end of a rope around the branch to pull it down so he could get back on, but was unsuccessful. Finally, we went to bed, hoping for the best. The next morning, I went downstairs to check on him, and he was still up there. I made coffee, then opened the back door and there he was. He must have gotten the nerve/energy to make the leap to the trunk of the tree and come back down.

The guy who lived in that other duplex was a colorful fellow, always getting busted for gambling and whatnot. His back steps had fallen down into the well leading to the basement. In the summer, he'd leave the back door open for ventilation. We'd watch Alex leap across the gap right into his house.

One day, we couldn't find Alex, and were calling for him. Hank, the neighbor, leans out the back door and says "Oh, he's in here with me, watchin' TV an eatin' baloney!"

11. easy way to get a cat down
we would suggest this to cat owners who would call us to get their cats down from trees. Put a can of tuna at the base of the tree the aroma and hunger will win out over fear.

15. Good suggestion! Tuna is always welcome.
And yeah, Hank was a nice guy as a neighbor, despite his faults. Unfortunately, he did have a pit bull for a short time tied in his back yard with no water, and...it got into our yard, with our border collie/spaniel/setter mix one day, luckily I was able to simply call our dog (Anastasia) back into the house with no incident...and then ask 'ol Hank to pls. come get his Pit Bull.

16. I call my tree surgeon guy and he gets them down for $50
One time the poor guy got half his face scratched off but he didn't mind. Maybe after a couple of tree limbs land on your head you get used to the pain.
