7. from 5-15 minutes. If you think jalapenos are bad, than avoid
touching ANYWWHERE on your body after you've handled habaneros unless you've thoughroughly washed your hands. But, if you can avoid serious physical pain, habaneros and jalapenos are very tasty :9

8. I learned a painful lesson
with the habaneros. Even though you have washed your hands, taking out contact lenses afterwards, well ruins them. I ruined 2 sets because the oils were still imbedded in my finger and as soon as I put them in after washing, ouch!!! Burn City!!! Best to take them out before the chopping and plan on not wearing them for a day or so, for the oils to wear off the fingers.

11. I bought medical gloves to handle peppers
I want to call them latex gloves, but I don't think they use latex in them anymore. You can buy them at any pharmacy.

BTW, if you have cooking questions or stories to share, we have a Cooking and Baking Forum. The best place on the whole internet.

18. Amen!
I buy mild jalapeno peppers, freshly roasted while you wait, every year. Before freezing them in bags, I remove the seeds. First year I did it bare handed. Never again! Med gloves work great.

22. I've done that before.
I processed a lot of them with bare hands and I ended up having keep my hand submerged in cold water overnight they burned so bad. That was the only relief I got. I will always were gloves.

13. Seems like forever...
I learned my lesson when cutting some habaneros years ago. Made the mistake of tasting one to see how many I should throw in the chili. I should have suspected something after seeing the little devil on the display at the market, but never expected my mouth would go completely numb before the pain hit. And it was pain, not just "hot."

Then I rubbed my eyes!

(Thank God I didn't have to pee)

14. Oh yeah!
I usually put my hand in a plastic bag while seeding them. Washing hands really isn't enough.

Whatever you do - don't touch your eyes!!! :yoiks:

16. The easiest thing to do, I find
Is just find someone else to chop 'em for you. That's what I do whenever I can...I make tamales for my oldest son's birthday every year and, now that he's mostly grown, if he wants jalepenos in 'em, he can slice 'em.

Seems fair to me. Last time, my fingers themselves burned for about 24 hours.

17. And even if you do wash your hands
You may still burn your girlfriend if you indulge in some naked hanky panky where your hands are roaming her body -- if you know what I mean.

21. Reminds me of the time, years ago, when my roommate got BenGay on her
um, personal regions. She had pulled a thigh muscle and was putting the stuff on the area, and I guess she got a bit on the wrong place. Boy, did she let out a holler.
