Trans Siberian Orchestra Concert Review (Last Night's Show) WOW!
ok all. TSO concert last night in Providence.
:wow:

SEARING guitars, earth shattering drums, violin and cello solos that make you weep. it was OUTSTANDING!

show started with the ENTIRE CD: "Christmas Eve and other stories"

complete with an INCREDIBLE laser show they told the whole story. 2 OUTSTANDING guitarists "battled" back and forth on just about every lick.

when that was over, a BLISTERING 5 minute version of Requiem (from "Beetovan's Last Night"). again, :wow:

then THE most chilling piece i think i have EVER witnessed at a live concert in MY LIFE:

a 15-20 minute 'rendition' of:

Carmina Burana

CARMINA BURANA???? :wtf:

unfriggenbelievable! imagine that 16th century piece transformed into a combination of bone chilling opera and spine jolting METAL flowing simultaneously together. it was SICK! SICK I TELL YOU!

go. see these guys and gals. pay whatever it takes. it will be an experience like no other in you lives.

seriously.

go.

2. Wish I could go...
A friend of mine from another forum, an occasional DUer, plays violin & arranges strings for them. I've wanted to catch one of their shows for a year now...

4. 16th century?

I realize music edumacation has fallen on hard times since I was a lad, but really, you can look it up: Orff was a 20th century composer.

The *text* is archaic, dating from the days when Latin was the only language considered suitable for litrachur. And maybe for that reason Orff used techniques to make the piece sound dated. (Which makes Orff a pioneering postmodernist.)

But any ensemble where electric guitar and cello rub shoulders sounds way cool to me.

On edit: if you like the way Carmina Burana sounds when amped up, you will definitely be intrigued by an old prog rock band from France called Magma. Amazing Teutonic heroics, played by the cream of French jazz rock musicians, including one of the world's finest drummers (who writes the lion's share of the music, kinda like early Tony Williams, only with that storming the barricades quality). Beware, however, Magma is really hit-or-miss. Let me know if you're interested and I'll turn you on to some of the good stuff.
