He is a fairly decent pitcher, but because of coaches sons in the traveling and rec leagues getting to pitch, and my not being a coach's wife, he has not pitched much for the past couple of years. His coach told him yesterday that he had an awesome change-up! I was thrilled to hear that.

If the coach tells him to work on a curveball or slider, tell him to go stick it. Sixteen and up need to be throwing those pitches, not any younger!

at least that is the position my son said he wanted to play. He is a good catcher, but I think there was a lot of competition for the catcher position, so he kind of fell on his sword to be a team player. He is good in the outfield though.

You said he was pretty fast, so let him pitch and play OF and work on his hitting. His best chance of really enjoying baseball and not looking back and saying, "damn, shoulda never played that position" are much higher.

He hits well for average, I would like to see him increase his power, but his BA does hover around .325 so I cannot complain.

He is a righty, bats right, throws right. He tried to bat switch a couple of years ago, that lasted like two games.

Tell him to watch Sadaharu Oh if he can, though he's a lefty and tell him to begin balancing in his batting stance with his back leg. It will increase body balance and teach him how to use his legs over time.
