I need some help re getting married by a JOP
My significant other and I are going to get married after 12 years of shacking. I need some advice since neither of us has done this before.

We would like to go to a little town in FL to do the deed since our best friend lives there. But we have some questions. First, will a marriage license from NC work for a Justice of the Peace in FL? IE, can we get the license here in NC where we live and take it to FL for the JOP? Also, is there anything else required besides the marriage license?

I know I'm going to get a bunch of "don't do it!" posts but it's something we want to do. So, any answers or advice?

1. You have to get the license in the jurisdiction where you're marrying
Check with the Clerk of Court in the county where you want to get married. Every area has different requirements (residency, etc.). They amy even have info on their website.

So, no: your NC license won't work in Florida.

4. I did Google and found the FL requirements
Just didn't know if an NC license would work. We're going to call the Clerk of Court today to find out.

3. I got married in Florida
if you are a non-Florida resident, there is no waiting period, you can get married the same day. (Florida residents have a 3 day wait)

Go to any county courthouse, bring your birth certificates and out of state drivers license, and you can get your marriage license for about $25. For the JOP to marry you at the same time is a couple bucks more.

6. Don't be surprised at how quickly you're married.
I think it took our JOP longer to put his robe on than to marry us (which was fine with us). He was gone in a blink, too.
