a respectful request for help
My husband has been struggling for the past three years at work with some nasty supervisors. They are the yelling types and those employees under them who yell back, swear, etc. seem to get in the least trouble. My husband (only 1 1/2 years to retirement) is not a yeller and always done his best and has many times received a letter of good work in the mail. But I think that these supervisors don't know what they are doing and therefore yell and take some of their anger out on my husband and a couple other employees who are just nice men. After 28 1/2 years I know this to be true. He has just been through the ringer once again and now that the stress is over he is in bed with a headache and sick to his stomach to how things went at the investigation basically due to the lies and insults and ugliness.

Anyway, I have read on this website many many struggles you folks have had with unfair business practices, unfair antics by supervisors, co-workers, etc. I keep trying to tell him it is like this all over, since he has not experienced any other job situation he doesn't have any idea what people are putting up with.

If anyone would like to share their story about crap bosses, I will share them with him. All he needs to do is get through 18 more months. Thank you if anyone writes. I know we are all busy though.

1. I don't think it's like that everywhere
I have a very good relationship with my bosses. All 4 of them.

I am like your husband in that I'm a sensitive guy, but there's only so far someone can push me before I start hitting back. I think if I were in his shoes I'd look for employment elsewhere, but if that's going to affect a pension, maybe that's not a great idea. I'm 33 and I'm not really bound to my company in any way.

I'm sorry I don't have good advice, but maybe my post will kick this up there for someone who does.

3. Does he work for a company that's big enough to have an HR dept?
If so, that's where he needs to go, and he needs to document the yelling carefully.

If he doesn't have an HR department, then it might be time to talk to the supervisors' supervisors; especially going into the meeting with the attitude that "this behavior is inappropriate for the workplace" rather than "this makes me feel bad." Depersonalizing the issue is better for him in the long run.

Best wishes... I know this type of thing is painful to watch.
