Tonight's episode of "24" ************* SPOILER *************
Ok ... I'm giving everyone fair warning. I'm about to mention something that happens in tonight's episode. If you don't want to know, DON'T READ ANY FURTHER!

Consider yourself warned ... now scroll down. :-)

I can't f*cking believe they killed Edgar!!! I'm so pissed!!! I liked him. I was hoping that he and Chloe would eventually hook up.

Great episode though!!

Who cast Dick Cheney as the Vice President, wanting to declare martial law and stuff??

It was so sad when he and Chloe just stared into each other's eyes.

Why didn't they kill the damn hobbit?!? It was his fault the terrorist got in - he should have reported his stolen key card as soon as it happened! :grr:

16. One of the writers has to be closet DUer - such a */Cheney dynamic
to the President/VP relationship!! Martha Logan sure ain't no Pickles, though - she's one of the noblest characters ever over all of the seasons of "24"! Walt Cummings made a good Scooter Libby, I must say...

30. VP - "Leland Palmer" from Twin Peaks
Really does have the Cheney dynamic down. Since Logan is a dead ringer for Richard Nixon, that's a scary combo there.

2. The bigger "spoiler": YOUR GOVERNMENT CAN'T PROTECT YOU
The whole "24" paradigm has been turned upside-down.

I especially love the out-of-control, paranoid Nixonian president and his loose-cannon but straight arrow wife, about the only beacon of ethics and humanity in the Western White House.

Edited on Mon Mar-06-06 10:29 PM by BattyDem
Sure, you want to kick his ass, but it's his terrific acting that makes it work. :-)

Connie_Corleone is right ... they finally brought in "Dick Cheney" to run things. I was wondering when that would happen. His first "suggestion" to the President is Martial Law. Gee, what a surprise. :eyes:

The last thing a terrorist scumbag needs: a computer geek with borderline Asperger's syndrome and a high-level security clearance.

10. The teaser for next week's episode
almost sounds like they're going to kill another character...They've been knockin out characters left and right this season. It's pretty wild. Last season I couldn't stand Edgar but he was kinda starting to grow on me.

Anyone notice the plots are really reflecting neocon policies? First they have a character that tries to start a war to invade the middle east to secure oil fiels (MIHOP if you're a believer), and now this whole martial law thing. Of course, they always have the defense contractors selling stuff to the terrorists...

Chase left her after her father supposedly dies, then she gets her father back but now the new guy in her life will die tragically trying to save her and everyone else. Guess we'll just have to wait and see though because you never know with this show... except for Jack. They can't kill off Jack or they wouldn't have a show.

12. I had heard that they were going to kill off a major character
Can't remember whether it was in the promos or elsewhere, but I had heard that a longtime member of the cast was going to see his/her final episode tonight. When Edgar went to find the cute brunnette he had unwittingly sent to her death, I had a feeling it was going to be him. It's like a teen horror movie where the kids having sex are always the first to get it. Edgar had to pay for his "error."

According to the previews, someone is going to make the "ultimate sacrifice" next week. I'm assuming that this will be the hobbit and that he will somehow redeem himself partially, if that is even possible at this point. Remember, he did save Jack at the airport when he was the only one to recognize Bauer's duress code.

Next week should be interesting with Tony and the mad scientist sealed in the same room. Is there even anyone else in there with them? If not, I'm guessing Tony makes quick work of the mad scientist avenging Michelle's murder but "destroying their only lead!" Oh no!!!!!

Boy does CTU security suck or what? They just let an unknown wander in off the street because his face matches the picture on his access card? And he's carrying a two foot long thermos. What's that supposed to be, his lunch? No biometrics (palm, retina), no searching, no questions, no nothing.

I is hard sometimes to suspend enough disbelief to enjoy this show, so I approach it like a James Bond movie or a comic book.

22. I agree with you on how to approach it
Though I kind of look at it as a soap opera, albeit a soap opera with a lot of action. It's funny - when I re-watch former seasons on DVD, it seems so much lamer than when I'm watching it for the first time on TV with commercials.

It's the morning after and I am stil upset about this. Why EDGAR???

Edgar is the last person you think will get it because he never leaves his computer.

More on edit: But Edgar fucked up, and that's why he died. He wouldn't listen to the girl telling him there was unauthorized activity near the air vents. He sent her to check it out, which he shouldn't have. Realizing his mistake, he goes to look for her, which again, he shouldn't have. So now he's dead.

18. Great episode(s) but yeah, LOTS of big holes in the story.
Like many have said, NICE security CTU. Okay, first of all, I still want to know how Lynn ever got back into the building without his keycard in the first place (after his sister's boyfriend mugged him). Does he have a spare or something? And, even if he did have a spare, wouldn't it have raised *some* kind of alarm if his keycard was used to come into the building TWICE without ever having left? Finally, wouldn't his security clearance be disabled or something upon being taken into custody? I would think, again, *some* kind of alarm would go off if a man supposedly in custody would be caught *entering* the building.

All that aside, why doesn't CTU have gas masks and other emergency provisions in every room, especially the rooms that can be sealed off during a disaster? I mean seriously, they've already been blown up once. They can pull up the complete schematics of every building in the United States within 5 seconds but they didn't have the forethought to have gas masks? They wouldn't have all kinds of precautionary systems in place considering what a dangerous, high security agency it is?

Still, even given all that, I totally love the show. In fact, part of the fun is picking all that stuff apart!

I'm totally bummed about Edgar. That SUCKS! And I loved all the shit straight from a conversation with Dick Cheney. They are really making up for that whole ACLU crap from last season.

I can't wait to see it play out next week. But, again, can't Curtis and a bunch of agents wearing those space suits come in and bring a box of space suits for those trapped inside? Is that too easy?

24. Bigger hole or maybe plot development
The terrorists must have set up the plan to steal the keycard.

Why?

How did they know Lynn would be there? If they were leaving the country with the gas why plan to take some to CTU?

All points to the VP of course. I mean he's the guy who killed Laura Palmer after all.

How do you get the suits to the people without kiling them? They will have to decontaminate somehow. Probably turn out the stuff goes inert after a certain time. Otherwise CTU will be useless for the rest of the season. Unless they have a backup control room.

Curtis was the only guy NOT wearing a space suit (though he had a gas mask), yet he was the one who carried the canister all the way to the truck. By the way, don't they have some sort of portable, sealed container that they could have brought into the building with them? :wtf:

27. The gas was still going well into the clips of the next episode
if he survives it'll be a little silly, especially since it looks like one of them is going to have to "Spock" himself and make a run for something while holding his breath.

I say 'his' because you KNOW it's gonna be Kim's newest boyfriend. I hope it's Astin though, I did note that he's listed as a "Special Guest" still, so I'm suspecting they don't have him written into many more episodes ;-)

33. ITA about Lynn McGill
How DID he get back in? Did they even show him coming back into the building, after being attacked in the parking lot? (I can't remember that far back...)

And HOW was it that Chloe (and sometimes Edgar ) can immediately locate a suspect on the feed from 12 security cameras at an airport, but it takes SEVERAL MINUTES to find the most recent usage of Lynn's keycard?

i.e., they should have pinpointed Russian-terrorist-guy in the ventilation room within seconds--he swiped the card to get into the room, remember? Instead, all they get is that he entered the building at the security checkpoint, and then they futz around figuring out where he might be. They should have immediately sent a security squad to that ventilation room, right after Lynn reported the keycard.

And another thing...

Did anyone else think that Lynn's breakdown was the weakest subplot ever on 24? Yeah, he got mugged, and lost his crucial keycard, but that incident pushed him over the edge? It just didn't ring true to me. Kinda sloppy writing for 24.

Ironically, I found myself thinking about the actor who plays Edgar. I wonder if he had any warning his character was about to be killed off?

I read once in an interview with the woman who plays Martha Logan that the actors basically have NO idea what's in store for their character until the last minute, which I thought was interesting.

Guess the guy who plays Edgar needs to find another job. :eyes: ....unless the writers can creatively through in a surprise twist of him somehow surviving the bio-chemical gas.

Hmmm...

I know it is only a TV show, but I shed a tear not just for Edgar, but all of those people that died in CTU. I just could not believe that there would be such a horrific attack on such a large amount of people.

Imagine that - when CTU was working at his highest capacity, they could protect Americans from nerve gas, but they couldn't even protect themselves.

I have no idea what is going to happen next - I don't even want to imagine it!!!
