Tonight, I was called Gas.
At the Pastor-Parish meeting, someone was talking about how she sees church as being something that gets her through the week. She said that she's like a car, and she comes to church once a week to get fuelled up to make it through the week. Then she said that my sermons were the fuel that helped her make it.

Of course, I chuckled and said that my gas was less expensive than the other places in town.

3. Aren't you supposed to be
resting? How are you going to fuel that assembly of folks if you run out of 'gas' yourself hmm?

I hope you're feeling a bit better and the meds are helping you!

The sleep might not be regular, but it is happening!

The meds are helping, but damn - that meeting tonight went 2 hours! *ouch* x)

4. Well, now, that seems like a rather appropriate analogy, my dear Rev!
But you are not gassy! That implies being a windbag, and you are NOT!

I do hope that your shingles are being quiet and not hurting you tonight...

There's a thread in GDP that you should see...no, not one from me...

You'll know when you see it....... :loveya:  <---gentle from me...

Hope you're doing well, yourself.

16. Try here:
When you're young and so in love as we
And bewildered by the world we see
Why do people hurt us so
Only those in love would know
What a town without pity can do

If we stop to gaze upon a star
People talk about how bad we are
Ours is not an easy age
We're like tigers in a cage
What a town without pity can do

The young have problems, many problems
We need an understanding heart
Why don't they help us, try to help us
Before this clay and granite planet falls apart

Take these eager lips and hold me fast
I'm afraid this kind of joy can't last
How can we keep love alive
How can anything survive
When these little minds tear you in two
What a town without pity can do

How can we keep love alive
How can anything survive
When these little minds tear you in two
What a town without pity can do

9. OMG, that is so cool!!!!!! I wish I could find a church that.......
.....made me feel like I was filling up my spiritual tank. Most churches these days make you feel like you are setting through a mini political meeting. If you disagree with them then you can't possibly be a "Good Christian" and you are all but banned from the church. At the very least they make you feel VERY unwelcomed.

That was so sweet for her to say that and I'm sure it was more than deserved too. :yourock:

11. golly -
Thanks!

I keep wondering how we can get the word out. I know there are more than just a few liberals around here. How can we invite them, and let them know that we're different from the rest?

I'm open to any ideas. O8)

17. I was hoping you would ask that and an idea just came to me......
....this instant so maybe I'm meant to tell you this. How about posting or even doing some of your sermons online in video link form???? I'm not sure if it's possible but why not?? :bounce: For some of us there are no churches around where we feel comfortable.

Or maybe you could just write the sermon out on a web page - if you have one - and let us ask questions. Boy, do I have questions!!!

OK, well I've said it now so you take it from there. Just do me a favor, if you do this video thing PLEASE link back to this thread so I know who you are already. OK

23. That's a cool idea!
We're kinda tech-illiterate right now. It was only a few months ago that I was able to get us on-line. These internets are for the young people, you know. :eyes:

Seriously, I think we need to be more interactive - online and in real life. I'll pass along the ideas, and see what we can do!

BTW - have you checked out the "Christian Liberals" group here on DU? There are some amazing people who post there, and they're very welcoming.

36. That's a true Gift, Rev.
Edited on Tue Feb-28-06 08:18 AM by Patiod
I envy your congregation! My S.O. says I'm a happier person the weeks I go to Meeting, but there's less motivation in the past few years, because our "weightier Friends" who used to deliver wonderful messages are aging now, and they've either died or and are going to the Meetinghouse near their Quaker retirement community.

Few of the younger folks feel called to vocal ministry (and the few who occasionally do anyway, shouldn't). The one "younger" (55) Friend who does have the gift has felt called to run our version of Sunday School instead, depriving the grownups of his wonderful messages (but enriching the Meeting's children). That's the downside of having to rely on a tiny congregation for everything, without the aid of any paid staff.

Keep up the good work, Rev!
