Poll question: Montana Quarter Designs
Elk

Bison Skull

Map

Landscape (eerily similar to the state seal, which is a no-no in quarter designs)

2. Are those actual models that they were choosing between?
Edited on Mon Feb-27-06 04:25 PM by Tyrone Slothrop
If so, where did you find those at? Several of my relatives would love to see the various rejected (and proposed) images for the other states.

On edit: For the record, I chose the skull. 'Cause skulls are wicked cool.

3. It's on the Governor's webpage
Edited on Mon Feb-27-06 04:30 PM by DinoBoy
Aparently text submissions went to the governor's office, the quarter committee chose four of the most popular themes, and then sent them to the mint. The mint's artists actually produced those images, and sent them back to the state committee. In the next few months, there will be a web-poll to chose between these four.

I am bummed out because I know one of the most popular submission ideas was dinosaurs, but unfortunately, that was not chosen as a fifth option.... Unfortunately, two of the submissions are (IMHO) kind of lame: another map quarter, or an ugly landscape (which as I said earlier, looks just like the freaking state seal minus the mining and farm equipment).

ON EDIT: and now I see the map is winning the plurality in my poll, LOL!

12. Map quarters suck.
They're an insult to the program and to numistmatics in general. Montana had EIGHT YEARS lead time to get a decent design, and you still have state maps in contention. God, but that sucks.

7. Whichever one is finally selected the Montana quarter will better than the
Wisconsin quarter which features a cheese wedge, an ear of corn and a cow. Embarrassingly lame.

I like the cow skull, but I associate cow skulls with the desert Southwest, like New Mexico or Arizona.

Bet ours is cooler ;)

With few exceptions, most crazy people here are from some other state.

17. I like the last one, but only because it's similar to what we used
for our final backgroud for our CYC Convention in 1986 (held in Helena). :sigh: oh the memories.

Not laughing AT Montana, laughing WITH - Arizona could have any number of nutty ex-governers or a scene of the lunacy happeneing near the border. We will probably have a cactus.
