do you ever shout down inanimate objects?
Last night I blew my stack while trying to configure WEP on some wireless equipment that pops hooked me up with. After about 5 minutes of calling this equipment every name in the book, I finally got it to work. I'm convinced that I intimidated the thing into cooperating. Anytime one of my friends call me with technical problems, I always ask them if they've cussed the equipment out yet.

Does this method work for you?

2. I think it works.
Sometimes when a program im running is messing up I hover the mouse over the "x" and it suddenly clears right up. Almost like it was threatened. Go Me!

7. VCR Exorcisms...
Went to the News Service yesterday, where they had a machine that had "eaten" a tape. I put my hand on top of it and yell "The Power of Christ COMPELLS YOU!", just like Max Von Sydow.

Then I hit the "eject" button...
Machine worked perfectly.

13. Always keep one hand on the machine
your trying to fix. When it inexplicably begins to work, smugly announce "There, I knew that would do it", call it a day and go have a beer.

8. I screamed at a pen today
I was angry at its insolence for running out of ink while I was trying to use it. I'm pretty sure it learned a valuable lesson.

10. the vacuum cleaner and most things
The other day, a cabinet door was not latching properly and i yelled at it to latch and when it did not, i went out to the shed and got a sledge hammer and smashed it.... :-) It was very satisfying.. and some day, i'm going to have to fix the broken thing...

I've been known to hammer inanimate objects that bump me while i'm walking about... especially ones that will not listen to stay off.... i know its silly, but such is the emotional critter.

14. I coo at the computers
"Baby, why arn't you working?" I used to say to the iMac at home. I tend to call my laptop Honey, ie "Come on, Honey wake up." I started doing this to try to get my sister to cut down on the foul language she used to spew at the iMac, and it stuck.
