Barefoot Contessa is making cocktails! A bunch of 'em!
And while I am deifnitely impressed she's using Bombay Sapphire and Cointreau, I'm not impressed that she's using them in her Long Island Iced Tea. Which I'm sure her version is excellent, but when mixing that many liquors together, the subtleties of the more expensive name brands get lost, and really aren't necessary.

Especially with rum and tequila in the mix, no reason to use Sapphire or Cointreau.

But, even so, she's mixing a hell of a batch of cocktails! A very nice Mai Tai and a great Manhattan.

Barefoot Contessa can do more legitimate cooking in 1 minute than that older southern lady can do in a week's worth of shows.

2. Not too sure about that
If the right balance is created, the juniper flavor of Sapphire might be enhanced in the mix

3. I simply cannot imagine the sapphire surviving the 8 or so
ingredients in a long island iced tea, esp. against the tequila and the rum.

But, on the other hand, one is never wrong to use the expensive good stuff in anything.

5. Depends on the tequila or rum
For example try this on for size

1 part Boodles
1 part Havana Club dark Rum Aged 15 years
1 part Chopin
1 part sweet and sour
1 splash of Cazadores Reposado
1 splash of coke.

Trust me, it works, and the boodles and Havana Club really mix well togethre

8. Havana Club?! Why do you hate America so much?
Edited on Thu Feb-16-06 05:35 PM by KamaAina
Since that evil commie swill :sarcasm: is banned on Long Island, as elsewhere in the last, best hope of earth, perhaps that could be called a "Vancouver Island Iced Tea"?

edit: Cape Breton Island and Prince Edward Island are closer to the original L.I.

17. DUDE. Seriously?
Seriesly??? I last had Havana Club on a trip to Mexico, but never thought it'd make it through customs from Canada if I tried that. Do you have a specific vendor you use?

18. Not a specific one
I usually go to yahoo.ca and do a search on the cheapest ones. If you call the vendor and let them know where they are shipping it, 9 times out of 10 they will find a way to discreetly package it.

Also, you can get Cuban Coffee (which is fucking amazing) and Cigars :)

9. Oh, Lordy, I love Boodles!
Del Friscos in Manhattan actually had Boodles in their bar. Only place I found that had it, so I always had Boodles martinis there.

I might try that some time!

4. I agree. Use the cheap booze if you're mixing it with
anything but water or club soda/seltzer.

13. The whole Long Island bourgeoisie thing is what did it for me
Doing the whole catering thing for for New York's elite makes me a little put off by those of that ilk.

15. Manhattans, my favorite, and I am ashamed to say that I am the
dorky tourist who always has to order Manhattans when in Manhattan. And they do taste better there than anywhere else.

But one too many and I start crying. Silliest thing. Boo hoo hoo.

behind RACHEL!! :bounce:

Seriously, I love Barefoot Contessa. She's so smoothing (her voice and style) Whenever I am stressed, I just watch her and she makes me so relaxed.

Her show today was good.
