Anyone read Oryx & Crake by Margaret Atwood?
Great novel! Picked it up at a local bookstore here in Beijing (i bought it since it was actually in english), began reading and was instantly hooked to it. One of the best things i've read in ages!

Its set in the future where large biotech companies rule america and genetically modifying animals/plants/anything is essentially the norm for solving any problems humanity has. The novel really shows the ugliness of the human race and where it could it could go. Also raises alot of ethical questions about genetic modification etc.

Very 1984, but in a much more modern context. Recommended to any DUer.

Especially to those in Beijing. Order it off Amazon or get it at the foreign language bookstore in Wang Fu Jing (north of oriental plaza).

6. An excellent novel by one of my very favorite writers.
I like the fact that Ms. Atwood is getting more into speculative fiction...though, in this novel, I'm not sure where speculation leaves off and realism begins.

I can't recommend this book highly enough.
