what is the most valuable (to you) thing ever bought second hand
A good friend recommended a book , Hiroshima Joe , by Martin Booth .
He told me he had a copy of it long ago that had been either borrowed or stolen , and never returned.

while browsing through books in a Salvation Army store in Indianapolis Indiana

THERE IT WAS

I read it and then sent it to my friend

Boy that felt good to do that

best two dollars I ever spent

2. A beautiful statue of a little girl
It's about a foot and a half high, she's has her hand on her skirt like a she's doing a slight curtsy, and she's blowing a kiss. At the base of the the statue it say's "Good Night" I love it.
My husband got it at a yard sale for ten bucks. I guess they originally wanted a hundred. As if.

3. A small Bakelite napkin holder....
shaped like a duck. Maybe from the 1930s? I saw one like it in an antique store recently with a $80 price tag on it.

I like it a lot, and would not take $80 for it.

4. My cast iron skillet.
I think I paid less than $10 for it at a resale shop. I cleaned it up, seasoned it, and it's one hell of a pan! :D

5. well my house
i actually think it had quite a few more than one owners before me

my parrot would be another obvious example, he's an old dude of 40 or so also, probably worth financially $1000 because of his tricks talents and talking but i wouldn't sell for any price

my cars are also used

hell everything i have is second hand or third

:-)

let somebody else spend on the depreciation :-)

8. My carousel horse
Paid a hundred bucks for it. It's one of the genuine wooden guys. Machine carved, but hey. A parker as near as I've been able to determine. Been with me many moons.

9. Two guitar amps
a Fender M-80 chorus I bought secondhand about 12 years ago. Clean sounding, with a nice distortion channel and the best stereo chorus I've ever heard on a guitar amp-- even better than my Roland Jazz Chorus.

a Roland Jazz Chorus JC-120 I picked up relatively cheap a year ago. A good general-purpose amp for just about everything I play-- from flamenco to jazz to punk rock.

13. That's hard to say...I have a lot of secondhand stuff.
Probably the 1939 Coronado floor model radio my husband and I bought on our honeymoon. It has a lot of sentimental value, and it's beautiful.

right now the thing I use the most is the cutting board in the back of all these goodies from a thrift store run last year

and all the stuff for the bedroom, the duvet, cushion cover and the fabric for the curtains

but my favorite current score is this sweet 12 cup teapot

21. A proof copy of a most amazing story for twenty five cents.
Hiroshima Joe by Martin Booth. I loaned it out and it never returned.

One day a hard copy of that very same book arrived in my mail box. Very mysterious. Now I know.

Hahahahaha

Thanks Jitterbug.

27. got my son an awesome vintage leather jacket for x-mas
chicago blackhawks bomber jacket. it is so cool. paid $25 for it, but i'm sure i could get $250 on ebay.
i've gotten lots of good shit at the thrift shops, tho. got a signed copy of david baldacci's first book for $1.50.
been on a thrift shop art tear for a while. i've found a few good prints, including a couple of pretty nice, kinda rare rockwell promotional prints, and a nice little picasso peace dove. not signed, but real lithographs, quality paper, not offset or posters. i don't really care how good they are. i just like them.
my latest jag is etchings of street scenes.

28. A long olive green wool A-line skirt.
Only $4 and it still had the Saks tags on it. It was absolutely beautiful and looked amazing on me. :) I forgot it at the drycleaner when I moved out of state. :(
