A while ago I posted from my kid's speech team practice
Well, they received a Division 1 and District competition and went on to State, where they received another Division 1 overall(they got a 1-2-1 from the three judges - some how it equalled an overall 1 )

Anyway - it's probably only about a 25% chance but if the two judges that gave them a Division 1 rating nominate them they could go on to All State!!!!

Which would make my kid (and the rest of his Radio Broadcast group) King of the Nerds!!!!!

:loveya:

I love him!!!

5. He's 17 ( a Junior this year)
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 12:47 PM by Debi
Thing is he has both physical and mental disabilities, using a wheelchair to be mobile and using some special education (three of his seven classes were special ed this semester - only two for next year) He continues to bust through every barrier his disability and society sets in his way. He's so cool!

Pic of him w/his two best friends on the Fourth of July.

On Edit:

Congrats to yours... These are our future leaders (and they are WAY smarter than our current leaders)

4. Congrats to you, Nerd Mom!
:-) And congrats to your son!!

PS. There's nothing horribly nerdy about being a good speechwriter/orator. It just means they might want to give law or politics a run. :-)

6. AND he made honor roll this semester!
OMG - his Dad is a former member of Congress (and a lawyer by trade).

Right now he wants to be a professional wrestling announcer w/a Law Degree for back up in case the announcing career doesn't pan out

7. Congrats!
My sister is a speech team coach in Iowa...in fact, one of her teams got a 1-2-1. That would be a heck of a small world, wouldn't it? You're not from Red Oak are you?

8. Nope, way northeast - sorry to hear she lives in western Iowa though
Contrats to your sister. This is only his second year in speech and last year his team got a III at Districts so we had NO idea what to expect - pretty happy with the results (obviously). :hi:

9. This was her first year
as speech coach in Iowa and she has at least one team going to All-State, so she's pretty happy.

As for Western Iowa...I'd rather stab myself in the eye repeatedly than live there, but we're originally from Eastern Nebraska, so I guess it's not all that much different. At least she's only an hour or so from Omaha.

Meanwhile, the speech competition marked the first time she'd ever been to Des Moines. LOL. She was NOT impressed. ;)

:hi:

10. We performed in Decorah - better food (Mabe's Pizza)
Unless you can get over to the southside of Des Moines.

If my kid gets in we'll see her at All State - otherwise, we'll wait for next year (actually we'll wait for individual competition in March...)
