Joan Jett and The Bangles and Howard Dean!
First, I see over in GD how Joan Jett is going to run as a Dean delegate from New York. THEN, someone posts on the thread that The Bangles are going to do a Dean fund-raiser in California sometime in December.

Damned if these two things haven't done my battered heart more good than almost anything that's developed on the political front for the last six months!

For openers, Joan Jett has been a hero of mine ever since I first heard "I Love Rock And Roll." She showed the world that it was Way OK for girls to to ROCK--as opposed to being window dressing for a mixed gender band or being simply Pretty Things Who Sing (in a girl group) while the boys do all the heavy lifting musically.

Jett has stayed true to her art, never giving Shit One about what "people might say." She has become a role model for young women who want to get serious about their music. She's got the credentials and she carries some weight among the young. When she says she wants to learn more about the political process, I say ROCK ON, JOAN!

Then, there are The Bangles, :loveya: my favorite band, male, female, animal, vegetable or mineral, of the last twenty years. (Sorry, Pogues, there are just some things a man's gotta do!)

If The Bangles decide they're gonna raise money for Dean, that just kicked them up about another six notches in my eyes. They have quite a large fan-club following that existed even during the years of their breakup. Those former teenagers who loved them in their "Egyptian" days are now old enough to vote!

BTW, if anyone here is on the lookout for some great "new" music, The Bangles' "Doll Revolution" is as good or better than anything they've ever done.

And it ain't like all these pretty female faces have turned my head; I've been for Dean since I first heard him speak. It's just a great confirmation to have some of my favorite rockers come out in support of him!

Cheers,
:bounce:

3. See how great America used to be?
We could agree to disagree and there would be no flames, just like joeybee12 and I are demonstrating right now.

Perhaps when the Repugs are turned out of the Holy Places and made to wander in the desert for forty years, America will be great again...

4. I, too, was thrilled about Joan Jett...
being a delegate for Dean. She's timeless and truly is an inspiration for any woman who loves her rock and roll. The Bangles were my favorite band way back when. Lots of memories there. I'm glad they are using their visibility to help oust Bush.

10. Don't know about Dean...
but I still love the Bangles. I did see them, before they became famous, about 1985 or 1986 here in Hamburg, Germany. And I love them ever since.
They did really study the music they love and they didn't care about, how they looked at all and had so much fun. It's hard for me to understand, why they didn't support Kucinich, but hey...
Hello from Germany,
Dirk
