*SIX MONTHS SMOKE FREE * ~\ <--------- X
Edited on Fri Feb-03-06 08:36 AM by underpants
Yaaaaaaay! ME!

Yep we brought the baby home from the hospital 6 months ago today. I had two smokes at midnight on the 2nd (actually) and slapped the patch on the next morning.

The first few days were pretty bad. Mostly from the wanting to go outside and have a smoke plus the fact that there was this THING in my house that we were completely responsible for but no amount of preparation is sufficient. The physical part was never that bad for me (patch) but just wanting one was a killer.

Anyway-six months. Anyone got a spare square? :smoke:

Just kidding the part that just blows my mind now is how I used to have to always stop on the way out of the house or leaving work and figuring out if I had enough for the next X amount of hours. Also having to think about going to any event and WHERE will I smoke? Will I have to leave the place?

I never was aware of how I smelled (no sense of smell-probably from smoking) but the way I just generally FEEL is like night and day.

What a strange weird addiction to have. Not any more.

20 years of Marlboro Reds. I hear that the movie is really good.

7. No pep talk
you can do it. It sucks like nothing has sucked before for the first few days but after a while you have the "I'm doing it" buzz. I really couldn't even consider having one at this point.

30. Just go cold turkey
Forget tapering and the patch. After a few days, the physical withdrawal is over, although the mental/habitual withdrawal is a fucking bear...

34. It sucks, man -- I'll be the first to say that!
But, imo, it's the best way for we death-grip smokers to do it. I smoked at least two packs of longs a day...

16. Congrats underpants!! Good job! MrG is one month smoke free today, and
he was a man who smoked a pack of camel filterless from the age of 14 until 35. Already, the difference is felt by him. His circulation is better...and, he can breathe...

I'm so proud of you guys! :toast:

18. Good for you!!
Both of my parents were smokers and I saw first hand the hold cigarettes can have on you. They wanted to quit so many times. It took the death of my grandfather to get my mom to quit. It took a major heart attack to convince my father. Smoking related illness eventually killed him just 5 days past his 61st birthday.
I saw what they went through and never started smoking... although I will joke about cigars! Sorry.

You've done something good for your health and good for your family's health as well. Congratulations!

25. Yup, yup..that's how it works...
Cowboy.

Way to go... I quit because I did not want my grandson (one and a half years, then) to see me smoke.
My son quit same time, for the same reason.

You're one ahead of us....your baby will not ever have been exposed to the smell and the toxic fumes
of smoke.

26. If I wasn't going to do it then
I was never going to find a good time to do it.

The scorn and disdain from the hospital staff was one part of it (I really made the hospital room reak) but the other was S.I.D.s. They said that basically I would need to take a shower every time I came back inside. Okay now that would be so ridiculous.....obviously it was time to quit.

As I posted above-Do you look back on the way you lived just a few months ago and laugh? I never was much of a carton buyer (no idea why not) so I stopped pretty much everyday. Amazing. They say it is harder to kick than heroin, I can believe it--- no one openly advertises heroin as you drive down the street.

27. Ya see, we had it down to a....
..science...my son would run outside and smoke...then I would go next.
But, the baby was walking and he would toddle right after us.

So that he wouldn't see us smoking, we shut the door on his face.

I'll never forget the look on the baby's face when his daddy shut the door
on him and said..."stay."
That was "IT" for both of us..

Yes, we are amazed that we could have dropped the smoker habit.
But we really did and life goes on and on...

Give that cutie bug an extra hug from us distant folks.
