Fuck the Christian conservatives - I'm glad they're pissed at hollywood.
It just shows how little their useless fucking unbiblical unscriptural hypocrite opinion matters.

Stupid fucks - they're all pissy and whiny because films that have "gay themes" are being nominated for Oscars.

Yeah, well, fuck you.

Stupid woman from "Concerned Woman for America" on now saying that these movies don't resonate with America. Idiot - if they don't resonate, then why are they so goddamn popular? Dumbass.

I wish they would just shut the fuck up, and crawl into a hole and do their own thing in their own made-up world.

But yeah... them shutting the fuck up about their stupid idiotic ideas about what their dumb asses think America wants would be a good start, regardless!

Somehow have some sort of bearing on their own. I don't understand it - what the fuck difference does it make? Don't like it? DON'T GO SEE THE MOVIE, DICKWAD!!!!!

And of course, the more they blather about it, the more people think, "Hmmm, that sounds like an interesting movie..."

5. And they're the only shitknocking idiots who think they're sexual movies
anyway.

Normal people see "brokeback Mountain" as a love story - one that happens to involve men, but it's a love story.

The righties, who say it's so evil to think about sex, are the only ones making these movies into sex movies, and the only ones talking about sex.

I wouldn't despise them so much if they weren't so abusive and destructive of my chosen faith.

that is ONLY because churches were buying out thousands of tickets to give away. Nice use of tithe money morons. The homeless don't get fed but they can see a crappy Mel Gibson snuff film.

10. Lots of churches did pay for movie tickets for Passion.
My church decided to donate that same money to a local food pantry and have a viewing party of it when it came out on dvd.
I didn't show up for that viewing.

It's too popular and has made too much money. The Academy members usually seem to think that that's award enough and vote for someone else. SAG already did it.

.."nice Christian boys" Kirk Cameron and Willie Aames got kicked off the A-list.

They won't rest until our only TV viewing choices are "Little House on the Prairie", "Touched by an Angel", and "7th Heaven" reruns.

Never mind that the music, TV, and movies they foist upon us as Christian "entertainment" just plain suck.

I think all of us would have to agree that our own RevCheesehead is a fine example of an old-school Christian, that being a person who lives in a Christlike manner. She is a person to be respected and admired.

It's these new-school Christians, the ones who have decided everything they don't like is un-Christian and will get you sent straight to Hell, who are to be feared and loathed.

41. I don't think it was mean-spirited at all
Because you're absolutely right: this IS how Republicans get elected.

Consider 2004. We had two problems: our guy ran the worst campaign on record, and their guy ran as a Christian. His speeches were liberally salted with references to God, and they ran lots of photos of Bush with crosses over his shoulder, with the light forming a halo around his head, with famous ministers clutching George's right hand. Message: Bush loves God and God loves him back.

The rest of the Republican candidates followed suit. Combined message: if you love Jesus, Republicans are for you.

And then they put those fucking Gay Marriage Ban initiatives on the ballots of many of the states we really needed. I think Bush could have beat Kerry in 2004 without swiftboating, Diebold or voter suppression just on the strength of the Gay Marriage Ban. If you go to the polls to vote for the Gay Marriage Ban, you'll probably go ahead and vote for president while you're there--and since almost everyone in favor of banning Gay Marriage is a believer of some stripe, they'll push the button for the candidate who's endorsed by God.

Bush's pandering to God's Followers neatly dismisses one very important fact: If God was in the business of endorsing American politicians, he'd endorse fucking Lyndon LaRouche before he endorsed George W. Bush. Bush's record is completely at odds with Jesus':

* Jesus healed the sick. Bush signed a law allowing hospitals to kill poor people.
* Jesus cared about the poor. Bush has done everything in his power to make more of them.
* Jesus befriended prostitutes. Bush sent his attorney general to New Orleans to round all of them up. (Note to Bush's people: maybe you should send someone who knows how to buy pussy next time...I coulda got a grunt out of the Second D or a long-haul driver out of any line except Covenant Transport, shipped him to the Big Easy and caught more hookers in one night than your fundamentalist Attorney General got in six months.)
* Jesus was a man of peace; Bush started two wars.
* Jesus took the sins of the world at Calvary; Bush won't even accept blame for the things he did personally.
And let's not even start on the practicalities and ethics of buying burqas for statues!

When you stir up controversy about a film, It makes more people want to see it. The folks wanting to see it want to figure out what was the big deal. Why was all the controversy stirred up in the first place.

33. They staged protests against 'Monty Python's Life of Brian'
with much the same result.

...(I)t was decided to open Life of Brian first in America, where freedom of speech and religious choice is enshrined in the constitution. Or so it was thought. Life of Brian received its world premiere in New York on August 17 1979, the same week as Apocalypse Now and The Muppet Movie.

The opening salvo in what became a heated and often surreal religious war of words arrived on August 19 from Rabbi Abraham Hecht, president of the Rabbinical Alliance of America, who claimed to speak for half a million Jews. Speaking in Variety, he declared, "Never have we come across such a foul, disgusting, blasphemous film before."

Hecht went on to make public his view that Brian "was produced in hell".

After Hecht's denunciation, outraged religious leaders queued up to vent their spleen to any hack with a microphone, in stark contrast to other more liberal churchmen who defended the film's right to be shown.

The voice of Protestant protest belonged to Robert EA Lee of the Lutheran Council, whose tirade against Brian - "crude and rude mockery, colossal bad taste, profane parody. A disgraceful assault on religious sensitivity" - was broadcast across 1,000 radio stations.

Not to be outdone, the Catholic film-monitoring office rated Brian "C" for "Condemned" and implored its flock not to visit theatres where it was playing, it being a sin to do so.

Naturally, the protests and marches only served to heighten Brian's media profile and so increase its box-office take. Nothing sells better than when it comes attached to the whiff of notoriety. When the shit started hitting the fan Stateside, the original plan to open Brian on 200 screens nationwide snowballed to nearer 600.

"They have actually made me rich," Cleese ribbed on an American chat show. "I feel we should send them a crate of champagne."

36. Reminds me of a funny story about them.
The woman you usually see on TV representing Concerned Women for America is Sandy Rios.

I recall an episode of Crossfire where she debated some issue with Kim Gandy from the National Organization for Women. Somehow, the topic of marriage came up (the topic may have been gay marriage), and either Begala or Carville asked Rios and Gandy about their marital status.

Turns out Gandy was happily married and Rios was divorced.
