... one of the Windlass Steelcraft Roman military helmets. I guess he could be a soldier putting down the Spartacus rebellion -- only he's not carrying the regulation rectangular shield. Guy on the right has a real gladiator-type helmet, though (which usually looked quite different from the kind issued to the troops).

p.s. if it is a Windlass helmet -- the neckguard will have a point on the back, which doesn't match up with the real ones they've found. Plus the crest-holder should be wood ...

6. I got a kick out of the Doonesbury caricature of Bush ...
What bets Trudeau used one of the bad replica helmets as a model? (The historical inaccuracy makes it even funnier ... very in-character, for Dubya to rush out and spend a lot of money on a flawed helmet, because he didn't do his homework!)
