Dixie makes 700,000 earth-destroying cups every day, for self-absorbed
bovine Americans who think the convenience of not having to wash a couple glasses far outweighs destroying the environment andleaving a mess for their children that might very well be uncleanable.

Yeah, thanks America, for all your wasteful ways.

And republicans have to ask "why do they hate us".

Fuck you.

1. I hear ya, Rabrrrrrr
And it's not just cups, it's any number of things that we'd rather have 'disposable' and 'convenient' as opposed to 'thinking of the future' and 'conservation' as our preferred M.O. Ugh.

2. Lest we forget the asshole who was CEO of Dart (the styrofoam cup folks).
Edited on Mon Jan-30-06 10:03 PM by GOPisEvil
This asshole wanted to move to the Caymans, or Bermuda or some such tropical paradise to avoid paying US income taxes. THEN, he convinced the government of this tropical paradise to petition the US State Dept. for permission to have HIS HOUSE in Florida declared a consulate, so he could live in the US, but be the representative of a foreign government and pay no taxes.

So, double fuck you to him!

Edit - he might not be CEO anymore.

4. It's too late
I was reading in the L.A. Times this morning about the excreted pharmaceuticals finding their way into our aquifers. Anti-depressants, Valiums, Viagras, anti-cholestrol drugs, etc., all seeping into the water supply.

It's like some kind of mad scientist reality come true. :tinfoilhat:

Read this for a glimmer of hope:

6. And all the pesticides and fertilizers that wash into the rivers
and create that wonderful 100 mile dead zone outside of New Orleans, as well as the dead zones in gajillions of other places.

7. And for imitation _____ jackets...
Those things are synthetic (oil-based) and even when worn out, won't degrade after 5,000 years.

Very wasteful.

(Like the Native American, there is nothing wrong with using animals. Just use as much of them as possible and do not be wasteful. I don't see what's wrong with this.)

8. Yep. Natural is way better.

I figure, if the animal has been eaten, then there's no problem using the fur - in fact, not using the fur is immoral.

Though I do think it's unethical the way that we raise mink and chinchilla just to get their fur. That's not good.

But I did see some amazing fur coats - beautiful, incredible coats - in Alaska, made from animals that the indigenous people ate and then made these beautiful pieces of clothing out of. Truly amazing.

And the environmental damage is one reason I won't wear polyester. Mostly, it's because polyester looks so tacky, but partly because of the environmental damage.
