OK, I get it... I wasn't made for forum posting
Since I have started posting on the internets many years ago I have been questioned and accused of things that I didn't want to say. Well, that I didn't mean to say.

For the last three years here at DU it has been no different and I don't think it is because everyone is out to get me or anything. Or maybe so, who knows? :tinfoilhat:

Last night after another frustrating night of explaining what I mean to say I finally put it all together. From the day I started to express my thoughts through words as a child it has been the same thing. Many of my teachers and other adults said I spoke in fragmented or random thoughts. They never mentioned any learning disabilities, but they did mention such words as "eccentric", "different drum", "a little out there", "little son of a bitch", (well, I threw that one in :) ).

In any case, this is just how I am and the way I think. It has nothing to do with me being difficult on purpose or trying to start shit on here. I will admit to maybe saying things that I think might be good for discussion, but I don't say things to hurt people or put them down (unless they really start on me).

So now I realize that it is best for me to just post in the threads that are safe. I will stay out of any threads that have to do with movies, smoking, music, history, politics, religion, physics, food, sports, computers, art, "post you picture" and a few others I won't mention as to not have to explain myself..lol.

Ok, just thought I would write this thread. Actually, it bugged me all last night. Not what happened here, but the realization of the fact that after 41 years I get it now. I need to try to learn how to think in more generic trains of thought.

Friggin' thought waves. x(

1. I don't understand.
:silly:

Nah, yeah I do. I always seem to understand what you are saying - so... I may have the same problem as you.

Don't try to think in more generic trains of thought ~ you'll get bored. I do.

6. I completely understand
I mainly post in the lounge, and *read* in GD, because of the fact that I have a very hard time putting my thoughts into the right words.
I think it's something that just needs to be worked on. A little extra effort before hitting post. I have the same problem on other boards, too. So I started writing my posts in Notepad, and reading them over and over and editing, and most of the time ended up just saying, "Screw it." and deleting it, and just not posting, lol.

:hi:

7. Listen, I COMPLETELY get you!
:)

Sometimes, I'm really scared of being misunderstood. Once, I got jumped on because I hadn't made my thoughts as clear as I needed to. No serious long-term repercussions or anything, but I felt a little wounded.

I really like you, and I identify with the stubborn foot-stamp "That's it!" because having to defend yourself when you feel everyone's made up their mind about your intent is never easy. Especially if you have your own doubts as to how to frame your thoughts and type them out exactly the way you want to. That's called "walking on eggshells".

Anyway, you've got too many interesting things to say to stifle them, is my opinion.

:D

8. What? Come on now.
Fuck that. You are who you are and you can't stifle that. If you aren't just coming in and saying things to be a jerk for the sake of being a jerk then I don't see a problem with stating your opinion.

And you need to think in more generic ways? Why would you want to do that? May as well strap on a neon fanny pack and roll over dead then.

I like your posts. Don't go bland. Weirdo Solidarity!

19. Oh if only I had one of those offices.
No, I manage an office building for one job and the other is a retail job. I love graphic design, but I don't know enough about the technical aspects of it to actually get a job doing it. So I just do it for fun and relaxation when I'm bored at home and try to learn a bit more about it while I do it.

Hey--maybe we could also come up with some kind of holodeck and then it could project an office for me. Argh! I just broke my head thinking of teleporting through holodecks and all it would involve. Good thing it's time to go home and catch up on beer drinking. :D

Some people live on message boards just to tear others down. Don't let them! Be yourself!

It's the behind the back stuff that you really have to worry about.

Definitely don't go generic.

14. Thanks all
Honestly, this wasn't written as a pity thread or anything. I appreciate the comments... I really do. It was just something that was on my mind because in the weird way it hit me last night. I started having all these flashbacks of things people have said to me through the years and went...

I'm not leaving or anything, I just wrote this thread. As for people on here or any other message board driving me away because of attacks, pfffft. Yeah, I don't think that will happen. OK, it might, but not because I will feel "beaten" it would be because I would find it no longer worth my time. Not here, just in general. I like this place and I like the people.

Like I said, this wasn't meant to be a "heavy" thread, just some thoughts.

Edited on Fri Jan-27-06 04:39 PM by rbnyc
Just more clear. As you said, you've had frustrations since the day you started using language. It's a language problem.

I think you should keep on posting in any thread that gets your interest. The more you write, the better you will get at writing, even if it takes time.

I also think you should keep on reading. Nothing is better for grammar and vocabulary building than reading.

I really don't mean to sound condescending. I don't think your grammar or word choice problems are much worse that most people's. Also, in a discussion forum, it's expected to be colloquial.

Still, some people are more succinct than others, and there's always room to grow.

I hope you get my meaning.

EDIT: typo
