Poll question: Is the band Aerosmith as bad as I think they are?
I remember the airwaves being lousy with Aerosmith songs in the late 80s/early 90s.

I haven't heard an Aerosmith song in years, but there was one playing on the appalling radio station they insist on airing at my gym.

Do they suck, or what?!

5. I voted other
I like some of their tunes but didn't like their live show.

A band has got to put on a good live show for to REALLY like them.

Heart is the same for me also , like the tunes , but sucky live show

12. Great band back in the 70's
Songs like "Train Kept a Rollin," "Mama Kin," and "Dream On" are great classics. Had a brief renaissance in the late 80's/early 90's with Permanent Vacation and Pump. Now they just stink. There's no heart in the music anymore. It's just cheesy radio-ready pop tunes. And I can't remember the last time they put out a song that was a ballad. Classic case of a band that waited too long to call it quits.

21. Aerosmith ballad: Don't Want to Miss a Thing (1998-ish)
It was horrible, the "love theme" to the movie Armageddon. You are very fortunate that you don't remember it.

At their peak (mid-70s), Aerosmith was the best around. Steve Tyler knew how to sing the blues and Joe Perry and the other boys could actually play their instruments (unlike their main competitor, KISS, who does qualify for at least the playoffs as the suckiest band ever). But I agree that they're going for the easy money these days.

15. I;ve always hated them, even in the 70s
I am a rock fan, and some will call that blasphemy. A/S are not rock gods, they were copycats of Led Zeppelin...so deal with it.

They ever so sucked!

19. And...
I remember reading about their creepy "Zero Tolerance" policy on drugs/alcohol, now that they're sober.

Something like if you work for them, you're not permitted to consume drugs or alcohol, and that extends to your own free time, if you're touring with them. They have some draconian contract they make the road crew sign in which employees must agree to abstain from drugs and alcohol at all times while on tour, even on 'off days'.

22. Get real. Nothing in 'Rocks' is like anything in 'Houses of the Holy'
For just one example.

A/S are not rock gods, they were copycats of Led Zeppelin...so deal with it.

About as tin-eared as the geniuses who think STP is a rip-off of the criminally over-estimated Pearl Jam.

18. I've hated every permutation they've ever gone through.
Liv Tyler is also, without a doubt, the worst thing about the LOTR trilogy.Miranda Otto,a real actress,in her role as Eowyn, puts her to snivelling, whimpering shame.

20. My friend says they've sold out
In some ways I agree, their earlier stuff was better. More recently, they conformed to what the recording company wanted them to do. Maybe, it had something to do with getting sober too.

25. I saw the Joe Perry Band during it's brief existence...
...when Aerosmith was broken up for awhile. It was one of the 3 worst live shows I'd ever seen.

Luckily, they were opening for Rush at Alpine Valley, and Rush made up for it by being quite good. At least I think so -- I was pretty well tuned at the time...

On the other hand, I've heard a few projects where Joe Perry and/or Stephen Tyler collaborated with other musicians, and they weren't half bad. They are accomplished Blues artists when they want to be, but that's not very often. I run hot and cold on their work on 'Roots, Rock Reggae' on the Chant Down Babylon tribute album, for example. It's my least favorite cut on the album, but there are parts of the song that are tolerable (and others that are intolerable).

It's like Neal Schon from Journey. He was/is considered a really good blues guitarist, and is actually in pretty high demand for studio work. But Journey sucks, nonetheless.

26. I love 'em...I think they have gotten better as a band as they have grown
older; I saw them twice on the '9 Lives' tour and once on their latest (not now with KISS, ish, but last year) and they were much better than when I first saw them back in 1976...

27. Their recordings are great. They SUCK live.
And yes, I'm a baby boomer so I can tell from a concert goer's view of their "glory" days.

I was shocked at how bad they were live. Second in crapiness only to Guns N' Roses live.
