~THE LORDU OF THE RINGS~

It began with the forging of the great rings.

Three were given to the Elves (Elad, Skinner, EarlG), immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings.

Seven to the Dwarf lords (newyorker99, nothingshocksmeanymore, whocountsthevotes, PeteNYC, Khephra, leftpeoplefinishfirst, arwalden) great miners and craftsmen of the mountain halls.

And nine. Nine rings were gifted to the race of Men (Terwillinger, HawkerHurricane, KoKo01, Wonk, slinkerwink, VolcanoJen, ZenLefty, MrsGrumpy, oneighty) who above all else, desire power.

For within these rings, was bound the strength and will to govern each race. But they were all of them deceived, for another ring was made.

.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

In the land of Top Of The Page.

In the fires of Mount Lounge, the Dark Lord Matcom forged in secret a master ring, to control all others. And into this ring, he poured his cruelty... his malice... and his will to dominate all life in DU.

"One Ring to rule them all."

One by one, free forums in Middle-DU fell to the power of the Ring.

But there were some who resisted. A last alliance of Men and Elves marched against the armies of Top of the Page and on the slopes of Mount Lounge, they fought for the freedom of Middle-DU.

Victory was near. But the power of the ring could not be undone.

It was in this moment when all hope had faded, that Jeter, son of the King, took up his father's sword.

.
.
.
.

Matcom, the enemy of the free-peoples of Middle-DU was defeated.

The Ring passed to Jeter, who had this one chance to destroy evil forever.

But the hearts of men are easily corrupted.

And the ring of power has a will of its own.

It betrayed Jeter to his death.

And some things that should not have been forgotten were lost.

History became legend.

Legend became myth.

And for two and a half thousand years, the ring passed out of all knowledge. Until when chance came, it ensnared a new bearer.

.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

Darth_Kitten: "My Precioussssssssssssss."

The Ring came to the creature Darth_Kitten, who took it deep into the tunnels of the Misty Mountains. And there, it consumed her.

Darth_Kitten: "It came to me...my own...my love...my prrrrreciousssss!"

The ring brought Darth_Kitten unnatural long life. For five hundred years, it poisoned her mind. And in the gloom of Darth_Kitten's cave, it waited. Darkness crept back into the forest of the world. Rumor grew of a shadow in the east, whispers a nameless fear, and the Ring of Power perceived.

Its time had now come.

It abandoned Darth_Kitten. But something happened then the Ring did not intend. It was picked up by the most unlikely creature imaginable.

BigMcLargehuge: "What’s this?"

A Hobbit: BigMcLargehuge, of the Shire.

BigMcLargehuge: "A ring."

Darth_Kitten: (from afar) "Losssst!...My precious is losssssst!!!!"

.
.
.
.

For the time soon come when Hobbits will shape the fortunes of all.

.....to be continued tomorrow.....

5. I get to be a ringwraith? Cool!
This ring, only, was made by the elves
Who'd hock their own mother to get at it themselves
Ruler of creeper and mortal and scallop
This one's a sleeper that packs quite a wallop
If broken or busted, it cannot be remade
If found, send to Sorhed (the postage is prepaid)

You did this wonderfully! Bummers about the bandwidth stealing icons, though.

Damn well done!

9. Odd - I printed this thread as a pdf, and the icons all showed up!
When I look at it as a webpage, I get those "don't steal bandwidth" icons. But when I printed it, the icons showed up!

They are an icon of Gollum and an icon of Bilbo.

(the animated gifs, of course, are not animated when one prints to pdf).

You need to download the images from mazeguy and put them up somewhere else that doesn't mind the bandwidth hit.

15. okay this is weird
I wrote this thread at home. When I view it there it's fine.

I'm at work now, and while I'm looking at this I get the bandwidth notices.

Sorry to all those who can't see them. I'll try to correct this problem in the next installment.

For some of the emoticons, you should try DK666's image hosting thingy so that stealing bandwidth thing doesn't come up.

But otherwise, i'm bookmarking this. :)
