This kitty is sick
and could use your good vibes.

The Wiley and Excellent Cat Named Ginger got into a rumble with a neighbor cat about a month ago, and the midnight visit to the emergency vet clinic for an injection and week of antibiotics apparently didn't "take." Yesterday, he had a fever of 40.5 C (normal is about 38 or so), so he had another visit to the doctor for an exam, an injection and oral antibiotics. :(

Good vibes, if ya'll can spare 'em, for our very sweet boy. (Thank you! )

12. I've gotta say,
Ginger probably was stalking the big gray striped cat whom he rumbled with. But we live in the country, and I guess this is how boy cats establish territorial claim. Still, I hate when our boy has pain. Thank you for your good vibes, classicfilmfan. :pals:

He seems to feel a little better today; the fever's down, but he's still not drinking water. Fortunately, his doctor said that he can have up to 100 grams of rare roast beef (his favorite thing on earth because it "tastes like neighbor cat," as an enticement to eat something moist.

Thank you so much, gf. He's the baby, ya know. :(

25. Yep, I know.
Do you have a "cat fountain?" When I first saw them I thought it was ridiculous, then the vet told me that many cats love running water and it encourages them to drink more.

28. I'll have to google "cat fountain."
He has "pure" water (bottled, but not carbonated) upstairs and downstairs, and the koi pond, as well as a big bowl of water outside the front door. Call Me Wesley, a few minutes ago, just "forced" a spoonful of water down him. Not a pleasant thing, but at least Ginger didn't make tracks for his hidey place under the bed. :scared:

The doctor says it was the bites, rather than the scratches, from the fight that caused this. Our mantra for the past month has been, "Ginger, if you fight, we go see Dr. Duerr," and we think he understands us. But apparently he didn't get enough antibiotics in the first round. I agree that he'll be OK, especially with so much love from so many people.

45. well, if he still hates going to the vet
then he still has life in him :)

I remember one time when my cat was really sick and we went to the vet with her. He told us later he didn't expect her to make it through the night. She did and got healthy again. After that she wasn't allowed on the attic anymore where there was glass fibre wool (?). She slept on those and the glass fibres would get into her lungs.

I wish I knew how to keep the wild cats from coming into our garden. Ginger's neutered and I've heard that makes male cats less interested in fighting, but Ginger's five years old and he can smell an intruder 10 kilometers away. He's been allowed outdoors his whole life, and I can't imagine keeping indoors 24/7. (We live in the country.)

85. The Grey Boys, their brother Clark and their Uncle Thomas
all sent great kitty wishes to The Wiley and Excellent Boy Cat Named Ginger....
our Thomas considers himself to be Hector Protector of our yard, and he has trained the young boys quite well.

You should see the four of them ganging up on Invador Cats.

No indication that he was just terribly sick on Thursday. He lost some weight, though.

Thanks for asking! :hi:

103. Thank you!
He does almost normal now, still a bit sleepy from medication, but he's back to his usual routine. And this means a lot. He even observed the birdfeeder today very closely, probably dreaming of the soon-to-open mice season. ;)

How are you doing? :hi:
