If Nick Jr. quietly cancelled Dora the Explorer, I wouldn't cry.
The three-year-old is obsessed with Dora. I know there are worse things for her to be obsessed with. But still.

It's to the point where it's infecting my brain, too.

Case in point:

Child: "Where are we going, Stacie?"
Me: "We have to stop at the money machine and at your papa's place before we go to the thrift store. Hm....money machine, papa's place, thrift store!
Child, me, J: "Money machine, papa's place, thrift store! Money machine, papa's place, thrift store! Where are we going? To the thrift store! You can lead the way!" (etc.)

I also have a Dora-theme earworm right now.

:grr: :argh:

1. It's truly one of the more persistent
and heinous earworms out there, too. Seek professional help immediately.

Or you could just turn up "Jet City Woman" really loud in the car on the way home.

3. That would be nice...
...but Nick Jr HQ would be beseiged by a million bilingual toddlers flinging their dirty diapers all over the place.

4. Be grateful - it's not Barney
and your earworm isn't the Barney "I Love You" theme song!

5. There will be no Barney.
She knows who Barney is. But she does not ask for Barney. And if she does, the answer will be "no." Gotta draw the line somewhere (and it's my TV, so it's my line).

8. I'll say this much about Barney
He has the ability to keep a kid quiet and out of mommy's hair. My best friend used Barney anytime I would come visit so she could spend time chatting with me without her kid interuptting us all the time. Hell the stuff works better than making the kid chug nyquil or something!

14. Old cartoons do that too.
Cartoons so old you have to screen for racist content because many of them are blatant. They're available for download online, and J's got a few dozen on his computer. She loves them.

31. My favorite line!! I use it at least once a day with my kids.
They think it's hilarious and think that their dad is "hip." (They are four and two).

when Rubyduby in the oven is born - there will be no mention of this thing called Barney.

I applaud you for your small victory.

11. Well done.
I was employed by Kids R Us when Barney first became popular -- we sold a *lot* of cheap ugly crap that summer. Parents wouldn't normally spend more than a few dollars on a t-shirt for a toddler, but they'd gladly shell out $12 for one with Barney on it...

18. It hasn't gotten that far yet -- it's Dora, Spongebob and Miss Spider.
Miss Spider is actually kind of amusing, in small doses, because you know some adult is writing the lyrics to the songs and snickering.
"Bug buddies, bug buddies...blah blah blah bug buddies...some have wings, some make strings, we can do most anything, blah blah blah blah blah blah, lots more fun when done in threes."

The line did get a raised eyebrow from J and me.

That and the way the bugs slur "bug buddies" just seemed....sodomastic.

12. Dora and Diego
I know what you mean, but hey, at least I learned the Spanish word for penguins from "Dora" and "Diego". I swear I think my 3 year old has every Dora toy known to humankind - well, ok not every one. I drew the line at Fiesta Dora which her aunt wanted to give her for Christmas. We have used Dora to good effect occassionally. When my daughter doesn't want to sit in her booster seat and have the seatbelt on, we tell her that Dora would and she generally stops arguing. It's also a half hour or so that I know she is not going to move from the family room so I can get a few things done without worrying overly about what she is doing and to which dog. And we too drew the proverbial "line in the sand" at Barney. Sesame Street, The Backyardigans, The Berenstein Bears, Dora and Diego, ok. Barney - oh hell no.

21. Thankfully, my kids are past that Nick Jr. stage, since they're in school
but shows like Spongebob, Totally Spies, Avatar, etc..still rule the roost. Nick and Cartoon Network.

I only let my kids watch a hour of TV per school day...that translates to 1/2 hr show, each. Always AFTER homework is done, too. Seems to work pretty good, on my end.

:hi:

Man that show kicks ass! Most catchy songs too, I keep catching myself humming or whistling one. Never seen such a fast paced active childrens show in my life. I wish I had this when I was younger, stupid Sesame Street...
