1. I didn't but I would if I had another kid
after a lotus birth, more than likely.

2. Sorry, I should have asked the full question.
What meaning would you see in the act of burying the placenta?

Salud!

5. No religious/spiritual meaning or anything for me
it just seems pleasanter and more more ecological than throwing it in the trash (which is probably illegal anyhow since it's technically medical waste) or the hospital incinerator (which wouldn't work for me, because there's no way I'd be spawning in the hospital again- I learned my lesson.)

7. Thanks.
Yeah, I guess it's the same for us. I buried it yesterday, marking the spot, and we'll plant something there in the Spring. It just feels right.

We began with a planned home birth, but the boy was turned slightly, leading to nasty back labor, and my wife eventually stopped progressing. Luckily, our CNM also works at the hospital, so she continued care there, which allowed my wife every opportunity to deliver vaginally, which she did, despite the C-section police continually banging on the door. It didn't turn out as we had hoped, but we did have the best possible outcome. There is no doubt in our minds that an ob/gyn would have had her on the surgical table, despite the fact that she was doing well and the boy was doing well, as the outcome shows. OK. I'll step down from my preaching perch.

Best to you, if you go down the baby road again.

Salud!

10. Congrats on the safe birth of your child
I had a planned CNM hospital birth, but went way postdates and had to be delivered (ugh, I hate that term) by some random hospital OB I never saw before or since. I try not to talk about it, but it wasn't something I'd repeat unless I was dying.

If I have another my first inclination would be to do it DIY. Even if I get talked into some sort of care provider, I'd definitely be at home.

6. My mom did....
For my brother and me. Under trees in our backyard... kinda neat, but I don't think I'd do it.

8. It's funny. My wife wasn't so sure about it, at first.
But she kind of got into it, when I went out to bury it yesterday.

Salud!

13. It's symbolism. A ceremony of sorts.
It's very much like many of the vital organs in consistency.

I buried our boy's in the backyard yesterday. I'll plant a rose bush, or something similar, in the Spring.

Besides, digging a big hole in the muddy northwest is great workout!

Salud!
