12. Actually...
Holding Alt only takes a screenshot of the active window. Print screen on its own will take a shot of everything.

20. SUSE 10.0 ...

KDE desktop with a lot of modifications.

You can't see it in the screenshot, but my favorite mod is a drop-down, full-width terminal called YaKuake. I love this thing.

34. That's what I'm running, but mine looks way different...
...mostly because I'm using Gnome with almost no mods (just a picture of a park in Sevilla Spain I took) as my background.

39. I actually prefer gnome ...

For lack of a better way to describe it, it seems to run cleaner, and some of the KDE eye-candy can really bog down a system. In fact, some of the mods I have actually turn off some parts of the default KDE install.

Also, a lot of the apps I run most frequently are native gnome apps, so I have all the libraries, just not the desktop.

Anyway, the main reason I commented is to mention that the background itself is a big part of what creates the look of my desktop right now. I just made everything semi-transparent and let the wallpaper blend into everything. You can't reall tell from the screen shot just how engrossing this wallpaper is. The person who made it did a wonderful job on it.

9. Holy crap ...

I suppose this is one of those situations wherein if you cleaned it up, you'd not be able to find anything. :-)

My own desktop masks a chaotic directory structure with files scattered here and there and everywhere. I sorta look at it as the dressed up front porch that hides the disaster that is my living room.

27. Webshots for the calendar
on mine. I use the Webshots desktop from www.webshots.com, it lets you use your own photos in addition to ones downloaded from there. I don't know about the weather thingy others have, though. That would be neat to have, too!

30. Not sure about Windows ...
Not sure who exactly you were replying to since the OP doesn't have either. My desktop has both, but it's a Linux system.

I use the KDE desktop with SuperKaramba and the aero_aio plugin. The liquidweather theme provides the weather. The calander is actually a configurable system monitor with several functions. I use the calander (or clock) for public screenshots because it doesn't disclosed my IP or main e-mail address. If you run Linux, you can get all that at KDE-Look.org.

I know similar things exist for Windows, but I'm not sure what they are.

48. Heh, that's why I decided to include a shot of my desktop!
:)

I have a bunch of curiosities which have nothing whatsoever to do with any aspect of my life. For example I have the press kit for the upcoming mission to Pluto in that file. Clearly I could do without THAT--but I don't want to!

Or should I have left that to everybody's imagination?
