When a person says he prefers to get to know people online first,
does that make him worthy as a potential partner?

I have observed that people, for any number of reasons, are different in 'real life' than they are 'on the internet'.

The latest person to disappear preferred internet-based chat. I succinctly explained why I prefer face-to-face conversation (amongst other aspects of my life), and he responded. I responded back as he said things were going well (or I read it as such), and now he's disappeared.

He could be taking his time to, but I've been burned so many times by so many... (which makes me wonder why I keep bothering with people; I'd be better off... uninvolved.)

1. I am guessing
but it sounds like he does not want to take the friendship to the next level, if he just wants to remain "online buddies". Either a commitment phobic person, or other issues.

You deserve better.

Neither. He stressed he was picky. I don't blame him.
But I wanted to make clear the differences between my real world persona and my cyberpersona. Better not to waste the time.

I'll keep a slight hope.

But then, after telling my co-worker friend about what the ex did at the bar on Saturday, she thought he was really freaky.

So true. I am much more outgoing here.

I've been burned so many times

So have I. It's hard, but there really is little alternative to getting back on the bike ... sorry ....

3. There are always alternatives.
The question is, do we want to try them?

Even I would have to say "no".

5. That doesn't make any sense
You can be anybody online. It's just lines of text.

6. Exactly. I could have been the type to read into him and take advantage
of his ideals. I did not. I could not. But many are and many do. (That's the one thing I did not mention. And if he's had experience on the 'net, he will have realized that for himself too. Heck, even Agent Mike knows there's a difference. :7  )
