There are live electric wires across my driveway!
The transformer on the corner flared up, caught fire and power lines went flying everywhere!

It's gonna be one of those days!

5. All sides of the intersection are blocked.
I wasn't going anywhere anyway. There is a wet heavy snow falling and it's supposed to get worse throughout the day.

Hi BW. Happy New Year!

6. We called it in as soon as we saw the falling wires.
I'm impressed while how quickly they got here.

My house mate just walked to the end of the driveway. I almost have hot-mail as my snail-mail too. The live wire is laying right in front of my mailbox!

15. It was a little too cold for that!
More like time to uncover the generator when we lost power when the repair crew shut down the power for the final repair.

That is, unless the energy bills destroy the roof when they go through it!

31. You may be able to sell your excess energy production back to the grid.
I'm beginning to hear that some areas are no longer participating in the buy-back.

I am planning alternative energy for this house too.

17. We were watching the snow fall.
This snowfall was heavy and wet because the temperatures were hovering just below freezing. The unusual weight bent most of my shrubs in half so we were able to clearly see the street and the power polls. The arcing went on for sometime before the final explosion of the transformer. I've seen that one blow before.

Luckily no one was driving or walking underneath when it happened.

18. It could have been!
The power line was laying inches from my mailbox.
:scared: It would have been very bad for our mail carrier if she had been making a delivery at the time.

14. Did you watch the transformer blow?
It's a cool thing to watch if you are at a safe distance. I saw it happen once in downtown Kalamazoo. I was at my desk at the county building (I was doing my field placement there), talking on the phone, and sort of watching some guys do roofing work across the street. It was windy, and a piece of the roofing material got loose and hit an electrical line on the way down. The chunk of roof caught on fire, someone came out of the building with a fire extinguisher and put it out. Two minutes later, the transformer on the pole blew up, sending weird blue light flames out of it. The power grid totally went out, and 20 seconds later, our emergency generator kicked in. It was something to see, though.

I hope you are all right. Don't go anywhere or touch anything out there until the power company gives you the go-ahead.

20. Yes. We were on the same level as the transformer above the street.
It sent out blue and yellow flashes for a few minutes so it was quite a show!

I'm glad that in both incidences (yours & mine) that no one was hurt.

:hi:

21. That happened to us a few nights ago!
There was a huge explosion and we saw a blue and orange flash right outside our window.

Spooked the neighbor's dog, so she ran away, and with no street lights, a black dog stays hidden.

Finally got her back, and I was impressed that the power company got things up and running within two hours.

22. I think that squirrels might be the culprits.
They chew on the insulation for the wire then along comes an ice storm and if tree limbs or anything comes into contact with the bare wire poof ~ bang fireworks.

Central Hudson Power cleared the street within 2 hours of the explosion. Evidently they were called away (or they didn't have the parts necessary) because they didn't get back to finalize the repair until after 2 PM.

23. Hmmm.... could be. I've heard of this before.
Glad you have your power back, and that you can now freely move about the driveway!

I do believe in our case that it had something to do with the fact that we've been inundated with heavy winds and the power has been going off and on for up to 12 hours at a time at least 6 times in the last 2 weeks.

Well, they're saying that the worst is over here weather wise, hope the same is true for you!

27. Aw ~ gee bushwentawol ...
I'm sorry I'm so late in getting back to you. The parrots need their wings clipped again. Frodo must have gone for an aerial view of my room or something silly like that. She woke me up two hours ago because a mouse startled her. Her heart was racing and it's taken until now to calm her.

No one got hurt and everything was back to normal before dark.

Power outages happen a few times a year in my neighborhood.
