Are/were your parents cool?
I don't think mine were. They are quirky and have led interesting lives, but I don't think they were ever "cool."

1. No....my dad was not hip by any means
Fucking guy would freak out on us for, like, thinking about drinking.

My dad was an artist forced to work a real job. He was also a great drunk.

3. Yes my parents are "cool"
My mom more so than my dad but my dad is also, just in a different way. He's more 'old school', that 50s era, close mindedness but sometimes you can't help the way you're brought up.

4. Mine were so old they were cool, or maybe just worn out.
I was born in 1962; My mom was 37 & my dad was 52. They insisted I was planned. My dad passed away & my mom is way cooler than I am.

25. Hey, if he was 52, with a 37-year-old wife, he must have had something.
Who needs cool when you have what he had?

5. My mother tried to be...
...by hanging out and talking to my friends. They all thought she was very cool. They just didn't know that after they left she usually found a reason to beat the hell out of me.

Unfortunately, her being 'cool' was part of her own narcisstic and borderline sociopathic nature. She had a need and desire to take away anything I had to make it her own. Also a pathetic attempt to relive her 'best years' which she considered highschool and her youth.

8. Yes
For the most part. My father was pretty strict (25 years in the USMC), but he was fair. There were times when I thought he was an asshole, but looking back.. I was the one that was an asshole...lol.

My parents are still pretty cool for being in their 60s.

I, of course, am the woman they wrote 1985 about (so says my daughter) tragically unhip even. Now where is my Aha tape? :hi:

10. mine WHERE cool...
both were hippies who taught us kids to be open-minded, compassionate, thoughtful people. They had the coolest record collection - Beatles, Stones, Doors, etc...

But then something happened and they turned. No nice way to put this... they turned Republican. Yikes!!! They've even lost their memories and wonder where they went wrong with us liberal kids of theirs!!

Parents...

14. please don't tell me...
Did Mr. and Mrs. Keaton turn to the dark side when they got older? Please say no.

Otherwise, yes, my parents were a bit like the Keatons. But I never had a repug brother - thankfully (although now that I think of it, I do have one sister who, while she didn't bother to vote, would have voted for W because Kerry creeped her out).

I've read the other comments and am sorry that so many of us, myself included had parents who were uncool for a variety of reasons.

15. My Mom was tall thin and pretty,
and my Dad got a branch library built out in our rural community. They were cool before I knew what cool was. Alcohol brought them down. WW2 wreaked both of them.

19. It's only my oprinion
That if your parents were really cool while you were growing up, then they weren't doing their job.

At that time, they're supposed to be your parents. Not your friends.

When I was young, I thought my dad was especially uncool, because he had a very dense Irish brogue that none of my friends could understand. He could also be very eccentric, which embarressed us to no end.

28. Not necessarily
Parents can be cool and also establish and enforce discipline. They can be 'current', have a certain 'joi de vive', etc.

22. I think my parents are cool NOW.......
But when I was growing up? Forget it!

I was a very rebellious first-born.....VERY!

It was good to move and get away from them when I went to college.....

But we have quite a lot in common now!

Both were Young Republicans in college. Later they both became fundies.

My dad introduced me to the joys of pornography, my mom (when I got all politcal about being gay) defended me even though she got death threats.

So an a minor scale of coolness they fail (they got no street cred), on a major scale of coolness, they rock.

Khash.

god rest his soul, was a marine officer who, after my mom left him, literally drank himself to death (leaving los vegas style). Probably TMI, huh.
