Who shops at Food Lion?
Edited on Thu Dec-29-05 12:36 AM by Flaxbee
If you do, and if you have an MVP card, you can help the wonderful animals and people at the Conservators Center in North Carolina (www.conservatorscenter.org). Go to their website, and look at the left hand side of the front page (where it says "How You Can Help CCI") - you can register your MVP card number and then Food Lion will donate a percentage of any purchase you make using your MVP card to this organization that provides permanent homes for all manner of big cats, a few wolves, other animals that have been 'discarded' or are at CCI for some reason.

The breeding of such gorgeous creatures for pets and for awful caged hunts and low-rent circuses is rampant in this country. CCI provides dignity and excellent care to these animals once they are fortunate enough to make it to CCI.

A friend of mine saved a tiger cub from a caged hunt, and was unable to care for the tiger after 10 years b/c of financial constraints and CCI stepped in to care for Tia (the tiger). There are also leopards, lions, etc. And the place is really, really, really well-run, clean, the animals are very healthy, NONE of them are bred for commercial purposes (though CCI does work with groups working to increase the number of certain endangered populations); I've met the two individuals in charge of the center and they're terrific people.

So, help out a little through Food Lion! Please!

2. Hey, thanks for posting this.
I don't shop there very much, but I will make more of an effort to do so for the animals.

3. Is that just for North Carolina?
We shop at food lion in Maryland (not all the time) and I had not heard of that.

5. I don't think so... I think all Food Lions...
if it doesn't take your number (it didn't take Commander Bunnypants'), let me know and I'll call Food Lion and see what the problem is...

I don't think FL advertises its charitable giving too much -

6. damn! Was there an error message, or what happened?
I'll contact CCI and/or Food Lion if people have trouble with it - if you can tell me what happened, I'll check it out and get back to you.

Thanks for trying!

8. OK, for those who had trouble / have questions...
I talked to CCI and the deal works with all Food Lions in all states, but apparently it is much easier to sign up in a store than online, though it might be a challenge to find a store manager who is aware that Food Lion does have this charitable giving option.

So, the suggestion from CCI was to print the page from their website that explains the CCI/Food Lion arrangement, find a store manager and sign up in person.

Thank you to all who do this! And please, tell everyone you know who shops at Food Lion about this giving option.

12. Thanks! (I was half fearful this was going to be something bad)
A really neat effort for them, giving back to their namesake.

14. Cool! I'll sign up for the program this weekend!
Food Lion is right across the street from my house! I can walk there. It's a neighborhood grocery in a little shopping center. I like shopping there. It's not huge like the giant, super-sized Kroger down the street.

Thanks for posting!
