Calling all Viking fans....
who do YOU want to see as the head coach of the Vikes next year?

My vote:

Either Jimmy Johnson or Bill Parcells.

14. I'll second that
There HAS to be a college coach or pro assistant out there who is better than what we have right now.

4. Gimme some up and coming assistant coach.
I'm tired of this recycling of coaches that goes on in major league sports.

6. One of the ideas coming from the Vikings message board:
Mike Singletary.

I think he's currently a coordinator somewhere. It was an idea floating around due to the need for some new blood on the team.

7. I named one of my cats after him...
He's Samarai Mike, we call him Sam. He looks like a defensive tackle, doesn't he?

11. Bud Grant.
Seriously. Even at 80, Bud can't be worse than that knuckle-dragger Tice.

8-8 The legacy of the MN Vikings.

And NO WAY to Jimmy Johnson....he's an oil slick.

13. If we could get him to come out of retirement...
my FIRST choice would be John Madden.

18. When I read your subject line...
before reading the rest of your post, I thought to myself..."there is NO WAY that guy is a Vikings fan." Steckel was HORRIBLE.

Reading some of the other posts, and thinking about up and coming coordinators, getting Indianapolis' offense guy wouldn't be a bad thing.

17. I presume you mean the Jimmy Johnson
who is a coordinator in Philly and not the ex-Cowboys coach. That Jimmy Johnson has said he's not going to coach again and turned down a megabucks deal from the Texans. Parcells' best days are behind him and he demands total control. He's too old.

I am not sure that Tice should be fired. For years Red gave him nothing to spend on assistant coaches, and Zygi is going to remedy that. They are also going to be more than $20 mill under the cap next year so big name free-agent acquisitions are quite probable. The team is still playing hard for Tice, which shows that he hasn't lost them. But I can see the arguments on the other side as well.

Looking for a rising-star coordinator from a top-level playoff team seems to be in fashion these days, viz Romeo Crennell and Charlie Weis (Notre Dame has as much pressure as any NFL job). Who are the Seahawks' coordinators? They will get some attention for head coaching spots. If Herm Edwards is let go, I'd look at him. I've always liked his style, and he has had success with the Jets in the past.

I just wish that the Vikes would hire someone like Ron Jaworski for GM - Jaworski has forgotten more football than most will ever know and he seems like he'd make a great GM.
