Timely Political Commentary in Manchurian Candidate Movie
I just got around to seeing the 2004 version of the movie Manchurian Candidate on DVD. It includes some timely political commentary.

A candidate for Vice President of the US is brainwashed and surgically manipulated by a multi-national private equity fund who wants to control the country. The company is named Manchurian Global. The company is sort of a combination of the Carlyle Group, Halliburton and Blackwater Security. The company is also working on developing its own mercenary army, which is supposed to be hired by the US military. The bad guys are opposed by an outspoken Senator who is very concerned that the war on terrorism is destroying civil liberties.

Overall, it is a very well done movie - much better than the 1950s version.

1. the fallacy is
no company would have to go through such lengths to 'own' the presidency--it's as simple as a whole lotta campaign contributions
