I was so excited to show you how to make accents that I decided to give you some demonstrations and curiosity compelled me to start with the first letter on the keyboard, Q, just to see for myself what came up when I held down the option key at the same time. Option-Q will quit the program, on a Mac. I killed my browser. Forrest go bye-bye.

Hmmm....let's see if I can do it right, this time. It wasn't the option key I hit that shut my program down, I just releazed, but the command key....I made a mistake about my mistake, even. :-)

All right: I don't know if this applies to other computers, but it's how a Mac does it...it's not HTML, but straight text, so it'll also work for text documents, Photoshop, and whatever else.

What you do is hold down the 'option' key while you hit the letter you're interested in, then release the option key and hit that letter again. It works that way for a few characters, and will yield an appropriate accent for each. Some work first time, with no second key press necessary. To get additional accents for any given letter, you may need to hit 'shift' or something else. Here're the ones that I get by default on my keyboard:

å
ç
ñ
