Answer a question for me:

Why did I watch that film all the way through? The plot was thin as water. Thinner.

I have no way of knowing whether building a plane from half of a plane is even plausible, let alone realistic.

And the survivors hanging on to the wings while the plane's in flight?

And -- a guy murders an injured man in the desert, with several witnesses, and becomes "NASA's new hope" instead of the new man at Sing Sing?

I know it's fiction, I know it's Hollywood, but Jesus. :eyes:

And what's Dennis Quaid doing making a dog like this?

end rant.

1. I saw the original with James Stewart.
The original is good, actually. Stewart, Richard Attenbourough among others. Directed by Robert Aldrich. The original was pretty straightforward....a plane crashes in the desert and the survivors to get back to civilization. The ending is an edge of the seat one...you're hoping that they get back.

I had no desire to see the remake.

I had no IDEA it was a remake. It is trash. I'll look for the original.

Edit: did the original contain a plot element wherein there's one guy who designs the rebuilt plane because he's an aerospace engineer, but it turns out he really designs model airplanes?

3. Hi, Bertha!
Yes....that was in the original. Stewart thought that one of the passengers was an airplane engineer...but he revealed himself to be a designer of model airplanes.

4. after recently seeing this movie, i felt like i lost 2 hours of my life...
...I never saw the original, but from what I understand it was a LOT better than this version. The premise started out very good, and I liked that it took place in a part of the world I know NOTHING about... but I could tell from the way the characters were portrayed 15 mins in that it wasn't gonna do it for me... yet I kept watching... and the end was quite disappointing. I almost would rather have seen the plane not fly and watch the fireball after they went off the cliff and crashed, but I suppose that's just a mean streak in me for wasting 2 hours of my life on a crumby re-make :D

5. Saw the original in the theatre, first run.
Then I hired the remake a block away from where the theatre used to stand 30 or 40-some years ago.

Though I first saw it from the middle to the end, then the beginning. My father never paid attention to start times. We just went. Eventually, he'd lean over and whisper, "This is where we came in." And we'd leave.
