You don't love a woman because she's beautiful. She's beautiful because

1. I'm sure hoping some fine DU men agree with you, Bertha.
Most people don't consider me beautiful - at least, not until they get to know me. Those are the keepers, IMO. :)

12. Plain chicks rule
DH thinks I'm beautiful. I think I'm plain. ;-)

If it was a choice between 10 IQ points and stunning beauty, I'll take the IQ points. Beauty fades, but brains, wit and a dazzling and riveting personality are forever.

16. I would take the IQ points too.
Most people that know me don't think I need them, but I do. A lot more charisma would be nice for me to have too.

3. What's there to discuss?
:D

Though I'd perhaps amend it to "She's beautiful because she's beautiful." And if you're lucky enough to love her -- well -- so much the better.

6. What I have observed
Men learn to love an individual they find sexy.

Women learn to find sexy someone they love.

7. My dear chookie......
This is certainly true for me....I have loved two men in my life, and neither would win any prizes for their looks.....

But once I knew I loved them, then they were sexy and great to look at!

:woohoo: :woohoo:

19. I don't agree with that at all.
None of the men I know have fallen in love with the sexiest woman they've dated, and I am most definitely in that category. I dated a tall, thin, sexy professional cheerleader for a couple of months, but broke up with her because she wasn't very intelligent (I am NOT making a stereotype of cheerleaders, okay?) The girl I dated immediately after her was a short, sort of chubby woman and I fell head over heels for her (and found her ultimately sexier than the cheerleader).

8. I feel the same way about men
I don't have a physical type that I'm attracted to. I fall in love with their personalities first, and then whatever they look like becomes attractive to me--but they absolutely positively have to have wicked glints in their eyes. No glints, no attraction.

>they absolutely positively have to have wicked glints in their eyes<

If they look innocent and have the wicked glint in the eye, it's all over for me ;-).

9. Rogers and Hammerstein
from "Cinderella"

Do I love you because you're beautiful,
Or are you beautiful because I love you?
Am I making believe I see in you
A girl too lovely to be really true?
Do I want you because you're wonderful
Or are you wonderful because I want you?
Are you the sweet invention of a lover's dream
Or are you really as beautiful as you seem?

21. Beauty comes from within
it's not the chest that matters. it's the precious in it. hearth, intelligence and spirituality (not the religious one).

Love can conquer all differences.

29. I agree... too often true.
What we think we know of a person, what they present themselves to be, is so often not at all what that person turns out to be. We can only learn from it and move on... and hopefully not repeat the same mistakes.

27. Lucky me! I love you, Jewel!! :loveya:
Fortunately, I married a woman who was beautiful (and smart and charming and) even before I loved her, and who continues to be soin fact, increasingly so. But though I've been happily married since 1964, that doesn't mean I'm blind. I still see the women around me. And what I see in the great majority of those women is beautynot because I love them, but because I look for what's best in them. I share the attitude of Don Giovanni, but with a different purpose. He wants to seduce. I want to enjoy life and to make the people I meet feel better about themselves. When those around us feel better, for legitimate reasons, we all profit. :-)

The mille e tre aria sung by Leporello in Mozart's Don Giovanni:

My dear lady, this is a list
Of the beauties my master has loved,
A list which I have compiled.
Observe, read along with me.
In Italy, six hunddred and forty;
In Germany, two hundred and thirty-one;
A hundred in France; in Turkey, ninety-one;
In Spain already one thousand and three.
Among these are peasant girls,
Maidservants, city girls,
Countesses, baronesses,
Marchionesses, princesses,
Women of every rank,
Every shape, every age.
With blondes it is his habit
To praise their kindness;
In brunettes, their faithfulness;
In the very blond, their sweetness.
In winter he likes fat ones.
In summer he likes thin ones.
He calls the tall ones majestic.
