'Tis the Season for Love, Peace, Music and Political Activism!
Support anti-war musicians by listening and linking...and it's sure to raise your spirits too!

Here's the Only Music Can Stop the War page and streaming music station: http://www.artistlaunch.com/artist.asp?artistid=7635
You can read a manifesto about music and peace movements at the same site. News of major upcoming protests, benefit concerts and so on will appear there from time to time. Then just listen to the station as you surf the web...it's a wonderful world groove.

If you use Norton Internet Security on your computer, you may have trouble getting the streaming audio to work. If so, just temporarily disable the Norton Internet Security and the audio should work just fine. Norton Internet Security isn't an especially effective anti-spyware tool anyway...it won't save you from the Homeland Security spooks.

So far, this station hasn't gotten one piece of negative e-mail. It reaches people who appreciate it. Music is good for that. Relax. :hippie:

1. Hello?
Isn't anyone here interested in MUSIC AND SOCIAL CHANGE?

It's a safe bet that many of you did experience music as a part of social/cultural/political change at some point in your life--and that helped form the attitudes that brought you to DU instead of Freeperville.

Information is never enough to stop a war. The universal human emotional language of music is also needed:

2. my computer is playing
"You make me feel like dancing" right now, but I am not sure if that is an anti-war song. I prefer to listen to my own collection. I get far fewer songs that suck that way. Unfortunately the tanjed thing does not pay attention to my ratings and keeps playing songs that I give one and two stars to. I probably should start deleting the songs I give one and two stars to and upload some more of my CDs. :hippie: Party on, dude.

3. You should REALLY check out indie internet music!
I gave you one good example, but there are many more!

There's something out there for any level of thought and feeling you might be in to at the moment. The anti-war movement today has helped shape a lot of the music at indie internet sites like mine, but maybe not exactly in the same way as in John Lennon's time. Musical time is a spiral, we return to something close to what's happened in music before, but it's not exactly the same, there's always new stylistic elements in the mix which creates the most social change at a given time. :yourock:

4. What are some other peoples computers playing?
Surely, you don't surf the web in dead silence. What a loss that would be!

In 2000 I found it amazingly easy to reach hundreds of thousands of progressive/alternative folks through stations at mp3.com . After mp3.com as we knew it went down in in late 2003 , it became much more difficult for anyone promoting indie music to reach such a wide audience on this Earth. But the number of people surfing the web has not decreased...surely, you can open your mind to some of todays progressive musicians!

(This is really a station playlist with MANY prog musicians on it.)

5. Where have all the proggy music fans gone?
It's awfully difficult at DU just to strike up an authentic conversation about the political and social dimensions of new music. This problem never seems to have occured among college students past or present, but aren't DU'rs at least "young at heart" enough to STILL go there?

Opening your ears is always the begining of opening your mind...
