Poll question: Best part of California?
I've been in San Diego for 26 years but I really love the Central Coast.

1. Other:
Wherever California Peggy happens to be.
It's all about the people. :)

4. Well that goes without saying!
And there were only 10 choice boxes...

2. I voted the Desert...
I love the CA deserts.

But if it were on your poll, I would've voted O.C. beaches.

5. The hood of NSMA's car
I tend to favor the coast and inland north of Santa Barbara, or at least Thousand Oaks and points north, but it's not that simple: I love San Diego, the desert, the San Bernadino mountains, and other parts of SoCal, too.

6. Night surfing at Malibu using just the lights from PCH and the pier
on a day in late July when it's warm enough to surf in just trunks instead of a wetsuit, and consistent5-6 foot sets are coming in and it's just you and your buddies out. . . .

That's the best part of California for me :P

8. My basic joke about Californians
Northern Californians look down upon Southern Californians.

Southern Californians don't care.

______________________________________________________

The wonderful thing about California, actually, is the wide diversity of environments in a single state, and many of these different environments are quite beautiful in their own right, and own way.

Why choose, when you can have it all?

For me, as I lived in LA for 17 years, I miss mostly (aside from friends) the beaches and the wonderful cheap ethnic food, like no place else. I also miss the openmindedness of Californians, and the willingness to try new things and new ideas, and to let others do their own thing without interference. There is a general sense of adventure that you don't find many places.

Other things I miss: Running on the bike path in Hermosa/Manhatten Beach, running on the beach barefoot in the surf in Santa Monica, skiing on the 135 runs of Mammoth Mountain, and Yosemite, the most beautiful valley I've ever seen.
