Ken Burns documentaries may be better than porn...
that's all I'm going to say.

Ok, I'll say more. I swear a Ken Burns film can just put me in a good mood, there is something comforting about them. I just the first few episodes of his Civil War documentary from the library. I'll be trying to hit that here over the course of the next few days. What makes it even better is the narration is done by the immortal David McCullough. Ken Burns and David McCullough! I could just die! Now if there was only some way to fit in Gwen Stefani circa '96, into the mix, well then I'd be the happiest man on earth.

4. Have you ever read the 3 volume series on the Civil War by Shelby Foote?
It is so much better than the Ken Burns Documentary. Well, unless you need the pictures to keep you entertained, lol.

I first saw the Burns Documentary, then read the books by Shelby Foote. If Foote had not been a commentator on the documentary, I would have sworn Burns plagiarized Foote's work.

6. He pretty much did ...

Not in the legal sense, of course, but he got all the content from established historians and others who have written on the Civil War. As he himself used to admit before his head swelled disproportionately to what it contains, he's a filmmaker, not a historian. A lot of the Civil War series' content comes almost directly from Foote, James McPherson, and Bruce Catton, which is rather bizarre combination actually. But, it works.

I like this series. Not a Burns fan, though.

8. his 9 "inning" baseball doc was great too.
even if you aren't a big baseball fan, it was full of history and nostalgia.

i've noticed that since burns hit it big with his doc style that it is frequently copied. it seems that many new documentaries follow the same style: historic photo montages voiced over by serious actors put together in an easy to follow style. maybe burns took the style from other doc makers before him, but he was the first i became aware of.

11. you know I watched a documentary on
Ron Jeremy last year, that was really good. I mean seriously, it was captivating. I bet the history of porn would be interesting. Not because of the porn itself necessarily, but the characters all involved and so on.
