I'm leaving for my California road trip in the morning. Tuesday.
This is part I of my getaways. I'll be leaving San Diego and taking 101 to Rte.1. I'll drive to Morro Bay or Cambria to spend the first night. Then continuing up Coastal Rte 1, taking as many pictures as I can, to Santa Cruz, where I have room booked for two nights. Friday I'm leaving Santa Cruz, continuing up Rte 1, all the way to San Francisco, where I have another room booked for two days.
This will be great! I havent had a real vacation in over 15 years. I have time on my hands, a few bucks to blow, a new Mustang GT and a new digital SLR camera with a 1 gig memory card. Oh and a new laptop so I can send pics out to friends at DU.
Please, no RAIN! May the weather Goddess be kind to me.

1. Prob no rain....but, remember you'll be on...
...the Coast a good portion of the trip. Layer, layer, layer...Keep a jacket, hoodie or sweater near...at all times.

Also, slow go is the way to do this....enjoy the scenery...tis beautiful...

Have a restful, peaceful, and less stress time and honk 'beep beep' when you go through Ventura County...

3. I've made this trip before. 20 years ago with a wife and 3 yr old.
We didnt get to stop that often. Now I can stop and go as I please.
It is beautiful and my Canon 20D will get plenty of use.
Listen for my honking sometime around noon tomorrow.

4. I'll be posting tons of pics.
This is gonna be GREAT!
Does anyone know anything about Cambria? Its the last town on Rte 1 before the vast open and uncommercialized highway. Is there lodging there?

6. Lodging in Cambria

There's also a gas station — Chevron, I think — with generally the highest prices in the state.

Motor safe, Mav. Do pay some attention to the road as the coastal scenery can go all rapturous on you. It's an amazing drive.

7. Cambria is a tourist town for Anglophiles
It really is a nice place, but was settled largely by recent-immigrant English. It has a very English feeling to it. A bit of a tourist trap. Nice restaurants and hotels. Visit Hearst Castle while you are in the area.
There is an old inn there that has a great roaring fireplace in cold rainy weather.

11. Sounds like a lot of fun
My SO and I are taking a road trip in late May/early June to St. Paul for my daughter's wedding. We might continue on and visit my family and friends in Vermont before coming home to California. I can't wait. I love road trips! :bounce:
