Sad day - my cat, Buddy has died
He was 17-1/2, not feeling real well the past month.

I took him to vet on Thursday and he recommeneded teeth cleaning and blood tests on Monday.

I woke up at 5 this morning thinking I heard him meow, stayed awake til 5:30 and went to look for him. He had gone onto the fireplace hearth on his blanket and died there.

We will miss him! Can't say a whole lot more.

4. Thanks
I never had a pet that long previously. I ended up being his "caretaker" - he followed me around everywhere.

My husband was just as sad as I was even though he always made it seem like he didn't like Buddy.

13. House seems empty already
Edited on Sat Dec-10-05 05:03 PM by cmt928
Even though he was quiet and lazy the past years, he still had an aura that is already noticably gone from the house.

20. Thanks everybody
Your words help me understand that so many others have felt this way.

I will be OK knowing he did live a long life, in comfort.

It will be the hardest when I come home from work and he isn't there meowing for food that will make me lonely for his company, but I will not be sad he was with us.

24. Oh, so sad.

But you know, you're lucky in a way that he died at home like that, in relative comfort, in his own bed and beloved home. You didn't have to make the decision for him, and it sounds like he wasn't in pain for a long time.

May his spirit be free and happy.

31. Mom had a (female) cat named Buddi.
She came along with another female, MooMoo. She is called Buddi because she was Moo's "buddy". She is a "dark calico", mostly black and brown with only a white throat and paws.

Mom gave them both up when she moved in with the repuke who is now my stepdad. :eyes: As far as I know, they are both still living, in Rockland County, N.Y.

Buddi provided us with perhaps the best cat story ever: I was in the midst of moving from Jersey City to upper Manhattan and had stopped off at Mom's (and Buddi's) on the East Side. I grabbed an air mattress from the closet and headed to the new place uptown. Mom then tried to call me, in Jersey, and got all frantic when there was no answer (and the phone uptown hadn't been hooked up yet).

Buddi then proceeded to nose her way into the closet and scratch on the empty air mattress box. Finally it dawned on Mom that I had taken the mattress with me to the place uptown. Good girl, Buddi!

37. Thanks for positive words and kindness
It is easier to deal with this because we just knew that time was limited with him - he was my "old man", but still played (only for about 10 seconds at a time).

My daughter from California just emailed me the last photos she took of him, but I don't have a place to put them to post.

He was just a black domestic shorthair who was found by my sister when he was about 2 months old. She tried for 2 months to find his home but couldn't keep him because her son developed an allergy. We have had him since.
